Hello all,

I hope you are well as we inch towards the summer season.  Last year, a group of us dusted off our gloves and cleats that had been sitting in our closets for many years and we decided to form a team to participate in the annual area church tournament in August.  Though it took some time to knock the kinks out of our throwing shoulders and stretch out the hammys, we discovered a renewed joy in a game that many of us played during our younger years but more importantly a chance to meet and play with friends and brothers, some that we met for the first time.  It was just a great time for fellowship and to connect as we practiced together, scrimmaged and eventually played in the tournament.  Unfortunately, we did not have a great showing in the tournament but the bonding time was more meaningful and gave us a chance to get out of the house for some exercise!

This year we are forming a team to participate in the Fairfax Adult summer league which will begin in July and also register for the annual church tournament in August.  The league is about a two month season and the tournament is one full Saturday.   For the league games, it's a doubleheader once a week with each game lasting 1 hour each (games are generally between 5pm-11pm).  Right now, we are aiming to play on Sunday evenings but depending on interest, availability and preference, we may play on a weekday evening.  This is for all ages but also depending on interest, we may field an over-35 team and a regular team.  All skill levels are welcome even if you've never played softball before but you should have at least a general knowledge of the basic rules of baseball/softball.  Since it's a weekly event, I understand not everyone will be able to come out every week as it's vacation season, and we all have commitments at home/work.  I request that if you do decide to sign-up, that you would feel comfortable committing to come out at least four weeks.  If you don't think you can commit that much, then I suggest you sign up as a reserve/sub.  Lastly, the main purpose for playing is for fellowship and getting to know each other outside of church.  Sportsmanship will be expected and we will be representing ODPC, so please honorably respect fellow teammates and opposing teams while giving all glory to our God.  Please feel free to forward to this email to any others that may be interested in playing as I'm sure I missed some emails.  Last year, we found players by word of mouth and sharing with fellow small group members.

Thank you for reading through this and if you are interested in playing with us, please sign-up through the google sheet linked below and fill in as much information as you can:
- Under "Position", please fill in whether you prefer Outfield or Infield, and you can also fill in specific positions after that (ex: SS, 1st, LF) Also, notate Pitcher if you've had experience in slowpitch softball.
- Under "Preference for Day", just fill in which evenings you would be able to play (S/M/Tu/W/Th)

We would like to get hard numbers for registration and a commitment if you plan to play, so please sign up by May 21st.  We will also require a fee to register this year, probably around $20-30.

Roger Kang, Kwangsoo Ok and Brad Son are the assistant coaches/coordinators.  Please feel free to contact any of us if you have any questions or you can send an email to: odpcso...@gmail.com

Thanks guys and looking forward to the season,

Gene/Rook Chae
