At the moment, this is the quickest way to "join" two steps:
1. Hold the DURATION button and turn the RIGHT knob clockwise to steal the duration of the next step.
2. Leave the next step's duration at zero (it will be skipped) or delete it if you no longer need it. Note, zero duration steps still play a role when SMOOTHing voltages.
And this is the quickest way to "join" two patterns (called pattern A and pattern B in this example):
1. Place the edit cursor at step 1 of pattern B. Focus the STEP display.
2. Hold the COPY button and turn the left knob until all of the steps of pattern B are selected.
3. Release the COPY button.
4. Place the edit cursor on the last step of pattern A.
5. Press INSERT.
6. Delete pattern B.
This method does not work for joining more than 2 patterns because pattern boundaries will be copied. To join more than 2 patterns, you must apply the method repeatedly for each pair of patterns that you want to join.
