i know that the true beauty of the 301 is merging DSP with the wonderful world of CV - but i think being able to map usb midi to the environment would be amazing. there are plenty of instances where i want to have control over a wet/dry value or levels but don't want to use up valuable (and expensive) rack space as well as the 301 inputs with basic static controls. in terms of UI - i would imagine you could map midi input via the same input selector, but in addition to the INx, Ax, Gx, etc. there would be a MIDI tab, and within that perhaps a "learn" button. when learn is activated the last active CC or note would show up as a selectable option.

then there's the issue of accessing the physical usb port on the 301.. but leaving a 1hp gap for a usb cable is no problem for me.

thoughts?

That would be so cool and so inexpensive for the users.

If this was possible then to have the option of playing samples with midi notes would be great too! And would make polyphonic patches potentially easier

bumping this again because i'm curious to know if it is technically possible... if so - brian, do you have any interest in this feature?

The main problem is that I've only implemented the hardware for device USB on the ER-301 but as far as I know you need host or OTG USB to connect a USB controller.  There are however, exposed UART pins that can be used for a MIDI interface expansion.  Unfortunately, work on this front by me seems unlikely at the moment although I would gladly provide the necessary information to anyone who wanted to DIY a solution.  I would just ask that such a project wait until the plugin framework has been released.
