On our last Carbon Canyon Century of 1/25/20, Dori Lewis was flying up Chino Hills Parkway with lots of Blue Sky

Then the pandemic grounded us all

Carbon Canyon Century

Saturday, October 23, 7:30 A.M.

79 Miles with 3,400 Feet of Climbing

98 Miles with 4,300 Feet of Climbing

106 Miles with 4,900 Feet of Climbing

Rain Cancels

Organized Cycling is back as we’re all emerging from the pandemic.  It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost two years since we last rode the Carbon Canyon Century.

Let’s go inland Saturday to see Carbon Canyon, Brea Canyon, and if we have time, Santiago Canyon.

Dallas Raines is forecasting just a 11% chance of rain for Saturday for his friends in Chino Hills with nice temps of 53 - 71 at

http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/l/USCA0216:1:US

so we’ll have to see what he has in store for his friends in the O.C.

My Strava report from 11/05/11 with a map of 107.9 Miles and 5,398 Garmin Feet of Climbing is at http://app.strava.com/activities/2228474

Let me know if you can make it by replying to this e-mail.  If there isn't enough interest in this ride, I may cancel it by announcing the cancellation on this e-mail list on Friday.

This route has lots of bail out options if you need to get home to mow the lawn.  The 79 Mile option is a really good ride in and of itself with a great climb up Carbon Canyon.  If you really want to challenge yourself, go for the 106 mile option and add a run up Silverado Canyon!!

My favorite part of the Carbon Canyon Century is flying down Brea Canyon with a good group and everyone taking strong and short pulls.  You can see the party we had on 9/28/19 at https://photos.app.goo.gl/aHubgWdZY9KcwtMT6

The Route Slip is at

http://www.caltriplecrown.com/Centuries/CarbonCanyonCentury.xls

and printed copies will be available at the start of the ride.  This is a great training ride with plenty of climbing on the 98 and 106 mile options.

This route has many opportunities to turn back if a shorter distance is desired ... so come join us whether you want to ride 25, 50, 75, or 100 miles ... or anything in between.

This ride will start at “The Square” (formerly Foodpark) in Irvine at Main and MacArthur at 7:30 A.M. sharp so you should arrive by 7:15 A.M.  Main and MacArthur is near the intersection of the San Diego Freeway (405) and the Newport (55) Freeway.  Take the MacArthur Blvd. exit from the San Diego (405) Freeway and turn North ... Main Street is the first street Northeast of the 405 Freeway.  Meet in the Parking Lot behind the Starbucks.

See you then,

Chuck Bramwell

Thank you for the invite Chuck. I’m still in “running training mode” so needing to stay away from lots of elevation.
Have a safe and fun ride. Dori

To make this ride I would need a rode bike and the legs to do it. Other than that....

Hi!
I’m definitely interested! I’ll wait and hear if it’s a go or not but feel free to text or call me as well!
I was planning on competing in the state TT in Lake LA, but it has been postponed so I’m pleased to get this option from you, Chuck! Thanks for the invite!

Chuck,

I have created the ride event on the OCW Ride Calendar.  I have also created RidewithGPS files for each route for riders that want to use their GPS navigation with turn by turn directions.  The GPS files can be found on the OCW event page at https://www.ocwheelmen.org/event/show/494347945 .  I have also created an event on the Orange County Wheelmen Strava page,  on the OCW Facebook page and the Friends of OCW Facebook page.  Hopefully we will have a good turn out and also pick up a few new riders to the group.
