BTW, my wife and I drove to Pendleton to renew our DBIS passes in June.  The Pendleton office workers at the temporary building near the Las Pulgas gate all said that there wasn’t any information available on the timeline for the remodeling of the Main Gate Visitors Center building.  We saw the Cal Trans Bike Lane Signs on the Freeway.   If you hear that the DBIS passes are available, please let us know."

No need to register now ... just come out and ride with us.  It was great to hear from so many folks.

All details are below.

See you in the morning and ride safe,

Chuck

Las Pulgas Century

Saturday, July 15, 7:30 A.M.

89 Miles with 3,400 Feet of Climbing

How about a nice and easy Las Pulgas Century on Saturday?    It was mighty nice on 4/23/22 as shown in my photos at https://photos.app.goo.gl/eSTAqBrfpJZuijkj9

Weather.com at Lake Forest at http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/l/USCA0581:1:US is forecasting 65 – 88 on Saturday so we can avoid a lot of heat by tackling this route which doesn’t go inland.

As you may know, in order to ride through Camp Pendleton Marine Corp. Base, you’ll need a DBIDS Recreational Bicyclist pass/credential which is explained at

https://www.pendleton.marines.mil/Base-Access/Recreational-Bicycling/

Since renewal applications for recreational bicyclists are currently suspended, we'll turn around at Las Pulgas and still have a good 89 Mile ride.  If you want a full Century, I would recommend a lap around the Backbay at the end..

Let me know if you are coming to this century by replying to this e-mail.

The Route Slip for the Las Pulgas Century is attached and printed copies will be available at the start of the ride.

Thank you to Larry Locken for creating the RWGPS for the Las Pulgas Century at  https://ridewithgps.com/routes/43620902

This route has one official distance of 89 miles. It is an out and back course so it can be cut short if necessary by turning around at the first Water Stop at mile 33 for example turning it into about 66 miles. Or you name it ... you can turn around whenever you need so come join us whether you want to ride 25, 50, 75, or 89 miles ... or anything in between.

On a personal note, many of you know that I was in the hospital with pneumonia and nasty lung infection in January that wiped me out.  I was barely able to walk around the block in February so I am so grateful to be able to ride again now.  I lost a lot of fitness so I'll be "off the back" on this ride but I'm looking forward to it.  My next goal is to complete my 150th Double Century on the Beach City Double on 9/23/23 so I hope to get some long distance training in the next couple of months.  I have learned that the second half of the Beach City Double can be very hot so I need some serious heat training.  I hope to see you this Saturday.

This ride will start at “The Square” (formerly Foodpark) in Irvine at Main and MacArthur at 7:30 A.M. sharp so you should arrive by 7:15 A.M. Main and MacArthur is near the intersection of the San Diego Freeway (405) and the Newport (55) Freeway. Take the MacArthur Blvd. exit from the San Diego (405) Freeway and turn North ... Main Street is the first street Northeast of the 405 Freeway. Meet in the Parking Lot behind the Starbucks.

Ride safe,

Chuck Bramwell
