We had a great ride down to Oceanside and back on Saturday with great weather … although it was plenty cold at 41 Degrees during the first hour.

Each of us are walking miracles.  Cycling is so complicated … it takes so many muscles and bones and hard work to be able to do what we do!!  I am so grateful for every ride.

I am very grateful to have been able to see the beauty in this course on Saturday.

I had forgotten how hard this route was but also how beautiful is was.  Thanks to all who came out for a great day of cycling.

The following are the results.

Anny Beck – 88 Miles – It was good to get caught up with Anny on the way down

Joe Bellas – 105 Miles + 4 To/From and 4,334 Feet of Climbing with Strava Report at https://www.strava.com/activities/2982661532 who wrote: “Thanks as well for the great event. I ended up riding with Greg Kibble and Tom Skelley.  Finished about 30 minutes slower than “Mr. Pulled Groin”.  Highlights of note include my Big Mac at McDs.”

Charles Berzon – 88 Miles and 3,711 Feet of Climbing with Strava Report at https://www.strava.com/activities/2982480682

Bernadette Brake – 88 Miles

Chuck Bramwell – 105 Miles and 4,104 Feet of Climbing with Strava Report at https://www.strava.com/activities/2982900664 which has a few other photos including various Dinosaurs eating me at mile 103.   I was happy to see that my new Garmin 530 had 49% Battery left so it should be good for a Double Century which is great.

Bruce Campbell – 105 Miles and 3,976 Feet of Climbing with Strava Report at https://www.strava.com/activities/2982570057  who wrote: “Appreciate you setting up the Sat Century today and for arranging such a gorgeous sunny day.  I rode 104 miles with Carlos (PA) and Mark (NC) and since they did not have Camp Pendelton passes and where unfamiliar with the freeway route to Oceanside Harbor Drive I decided to join them.  One close call on I-5 northbound towards Las Pulgas. A pick up truck loaded with bar stools lost one just in front of us.   We slowed as the bar still tumbled at high speed towards the shoulder, in front of us, but luckily it stopped rolling just as we swerved around it.  Everything else was great - 6 hours flat ride time so I am very tired.  We  should do this again soon!”

Vicki Chernoff – 88 Miles on her Birthday!! – How cool is that? – Vicki wrote: “Bernadette and I finished with 85 miles and 3500 feet elevation; neither of us have Military Base passes and we are both too slow to keep up with Mr. Pulled Groin, who pulled out of the Carl's Junior rest stop like a teenager chasing a Victoria Secret model. It all makes sense when I reflect on Bruce's hand flapping (aka chatty cathy) gesture as he passed Chuck and I an hour into the ride - apparently I came between the Chuck and Bruce bromance and Bruce responded like a dissed girlfriend, racing ahead. Despite all that, Bruce did get me a birthday present.... what a guy! Thanks Chuck for organizing and everyone for a happy birthday. Appreciate the camaraderie and teamwork Bernadette and Andrew.”

Carlos Da Silva – 105 Miles – Carlos was from Pennsylvania!!

Mark Gatehouse – 105 Miles – Mark was from North Carolina!!

Greg Kibble – 105 Miles and 4,012 Feet of Climbing with Strava Report at https://www.strava.com/activities/2982680349

Ron Lehman – 88 Miles and 3,632 Feet of Climbing with Strava Report at https://www.strava.com/activities/2982712505 who wrote: “Thanks for organizing this event, Nancy and I had a great time, we did 88 miles to Pulgas and back.”

Andrew May – 73 Miles and 3,094 Feet of Climbing with Strava Report at https://www.strava.com/activities/2982467516

Tom Skelley – 105 Miles and 3,645 Feet of Climbing with Strava Report at https://www.strava.com/activities/2982669585

Dennis Thomas – 88 Miles and 3,091 Feet of Climbing with Strava Report at https://www.strava.com/activities/2986155136 who wrote: “Ended with 86 miles to the gate and back.  A big shout out to the “Flying Red Brick” and Bruce Campbell for graciously allowing me to suck their wheels all the way down to the gate.  It was a fast ride down, and I paid for it on the way back with a severe bonk, but it was worth it!  Also a big thanks to Charles for suggesting stopping at Taco Bell for some carb loading. Definitely made my bonk a little easier to survive. Thanks!  And of course, a HUGE thanks to Chuck for always being the ignition that drives us. We are all indebted to you. Thank You!”

Nancy Vallance – 88 Miles

The sign in sheet is attached and Jim Pugh is copied on this for the OCW Stats.

Thanks to everyone for coming out to start 2020 with a great Century ride.

Chuck

Hi Chuck.

Below is my ride report.

[a few miles...with] OCW Chuck Bramwell’s Oceanside Century Route.
Got home at 11pm last night from Colorado Snowboarding, and needed to get back home to do: tons of laundry, house cleaning, Christmas ‘un-decorating’ before work on Monday. It was a perfect 1st 2020 ride for me. Great day, thank you Chuck.

Have a wonderful Sunday.
Dori
