On the Carbon Canyon Century of 1/25/20, Dori Lewis was flying up Chino Hills Parkway with lots of Blue Sky

Then the pandemic grounded us all

Carbon Canyon Century

Saturday, February 28, 7:30 A.M. - A week from this coming Saturday

81 Miles with 3,400 Feet of Climbing

100 Miles with 4,300 Feet of Climbing

108 Miles with 4,900 Feet of Climbing

Rain Cancels

Let’s go inland Saturday to see Carbon Canyon, Brea Canyon, and if we have time, Santiago Canyon.

Dallas Raines is forecasting just a 14% chance of rain for Saturday 2/28/26 for his friends in Chino Hills with nice temps of 51 - 73 at

http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/l/USCA0216:1:US

so we’ll have to see what he has in store for his friends in the O.C.

My Strava report from 11/05/11 with a map of 107.9 Miles and 5,398 Garmin Feet of Climbing is at http://app.strava.com/activities/2228474

Let me know if you can make it by replying to this e-mail.  If there isn't enough interest in this ride, I may cancel it by announcing the cancellation on this e-mail list on the Friday before.

This route has lots of bail out options if you need to get home to mow the lawn.  The 81 Mile option is a really good ride in and of itself with a great climb up Carbon Canyon.  If you really want to challenge yourself, go for the 108 mile option!!

My favorite part of the Carbon Canyon Century is flying down Brea Canyon with a good group and everyone taking strong and short pulls.  You can see the party we had on 9/28/19 at https://photos.app.goo.gl/aHubgWdZY9KcwtMT6

The Route Slip is attached and printed copies will be available at the start of the ride.  This is a great training ride with plenty of climbing on the 100 and 108 mile options.

This ride will start at “The Square” (formerly Foodpark) in Irvine at Main and MacArthur at 7:30 A.M. sharp so you should arrive by 7:15 A.M.  Main and MacArthur is near the intersection of the San Diego Freeway (405) and the Newport (55) Freeway.  Take the MacArthur Blvd. exit from the San Diego (405) Freeway and turn North ... Main Street is the first street Northeast of the 405 Freeway.  Meet in the Parking Lot behind the Starbucks.

See you then,

Chuck Bramwell

The Carbon Canyon Century is on for tomorrow.  All details are below.

Thank you to Larry Locken for creating the route options on RWGPS:

81 Miles with 3,400 Feet of Climbing at https://ridewithgps.com/routes/37829238

100 Miles with 4,300 Feet of Climbing at https://ridewithgps.com/routes/37829281

108 Miles with 4,900 Feet of Climbing at https://ridewithgps.com/routes/37829323

The route sheet is attached and I'll bring printed copies.

The Weather Forecast for Chino Hills this Saturday is now even warmer than below with 55 - 87 degrees at https://weather.com/weather/tenday/l/USCA0216:1:US   It will be critical for all of us to drink more than we're used to the past few months.   The first two Rest Stops are at McDonalds and I have confirmed that the beverage bars with water and ice are in the dining areas so we won't have to wait at the counters.  My goal is to drink two big water bottles before each Rest Stop.

The following are the "Registered Riders":

Bob Aguilar - Riding from Yorba Linda

Chuck Bramwell

Bruce Campbell

Vicki Chernoff

Matthew Dexter

Hoan Do

Kris Jones

Greg Kibble in spirit

Larry Locken

Nils Sandburg - Joining at mile 12

Dennis Thomas in spirit

No need to register ... just come out and ride.

See you tomorrow and ride safe,

Chuck

I did 109 miles and 5,300' on today's Carbon Canyon Century but no Strava link as I accidentally deleted it ...must have been light headed from the heat. It was 97F in Santiago Canyon this PM

Thanks for organizing

101 miles and 4800 ft elevation for Vicki. Tough introductory ride back into a century! Thank you for organizing, Chuck - your effort is appreciated. Thanks for the pulls, mostly from Bruce. Those last 18 miles riding alone, while flat, were challenged by traffic lights - next time, the bike trail? A day well spent!
