Dear colleagues,
Ananke, a small Jupiter irregular satellite, will occult a G = 15.5
star on the night of the 14th of August. The interesting thing about
this event is the very slow speed, making the event last for more than
20 seconds. With that, longer exposures can be used (up to 5 sec), so
small telescopes can make the observation.
As you can see on the attached map, only Brazil, Uruguai and a small
portion of Morocco and Europe are concerned.
Note that the time on the map is to the big red dot, the arrow shows
the direction of motion and each red dot is spaced by one minute. Be
careful to check the correct time of the event for your location.
The aim is to determine the body size and position from this event.
Please let us know if you need any further information, we hope you can observe.
Clear skies,
Felipe and Altair.
