NOMINATION OF AWARD RECIPIENTS
ORAUSA 2018 (administered in 2019) individual and Affiliate awards is now opened. Members should send in their completed nomination forms and supporting evidence to the new Chairman of the Committee on /before APRIL 20, 2019. Nominations received after APRIL 20, 2019 will not be considered.
The Award Committee has made some changes to the format of the nominations in order to improve the nomination process which will in turn result in the nomination of credible individuals and affiliates. One of the major changes affected by the Award Committee is the inclusion of an oral interview. Nominees for the Orlu New Generation Award and Ikechukwu Onwuzurike Legacy Education Award will be interviewed by the Committee before the winners are selected. In other words these two awards will not be given to individuals who will not be present at the Convention. This change is in addition to the changes made last two years with regards to the requirement of a minimum 1000 words essay for the “Exemplary Affiliate Award and 500 words essay for the others.

DESCRIPTION OF AWARDS
1. ORLU CITIZEN OF THE YEAR: ONE adult award to the most deserving and meritorious citizen or non-citizen of Orlu living or not living who contributed towards the development of our civilization, our civil society and the betterment of mankind. Evidence supporting this nomination must be independently verifiable.
2. EMEKA CHINEDU PHILANTHROPHY AWARD: This award will recognize the highest financial contributor to ORAUSA in the fiscal year 2018. The winner of this award is selected by the National Executive.
3. ORLU NEW GENERATION AWARD: ONE new generation award for our children (young adult) not only based in academia or degrees but based on their accomplishments or drive and, interest towards our African/Igbo culture, the appreciation of our African heritage and family values.
4. ORLU SERVICE AWARD: One service award to a personality in the locality of the Affiliate hosting the convention for exemplary service to the host affiliate/Orlu Community. The Affiliate send the winner to the Chairman ORAUSA AWARD COMMITTEE not later than APRIL 20, 2019
5. EXEMPLARY AFFILIATE AWARD: This recognition will be awarded to one ORAUSA affiliate that exemplified team work, unity, peace and support for ORAUSA programs and other humanitarian activities.
6. IKECHUKWU ONWUZURIKE LEGACY EDUCATION AWARD: To be awarded to high school senior or college student from the hosting affiliate with highest (GPA) academic excellence. This award would be named after an individual with specific donation toward this scholarship.
7. TRAIL BLAZER ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: This award will go to any member of an ORAUSA affiliate who achieves an unprecedented accomplishment in the area of sports, science, academia or politics/government either in USA or Nigeria. Evidence supporting this nomination must be independently verifiable. This award can be won by more than one individual in any single year

PLEASE NOTE
As stated above, Ikechukwu Onwuzurike Legacy Education Award has grown beyond the original concept of giving an award to a child from the host affiliate. Now the Award Committee still works with the host Affiliate to recommend a child for the award with a cash prize of $1000 at the convention. This is mostly likely to happen again this year in Washington DC. In addition, 6 other children from visiting affiliates selected in the convention hall have received cash awards of $500 each. To receive such an award, the child must be present.
