Trail Blazers –

As requested, I uploaded a flyer with more information on the 2008
Santa Cruz trip. Download 2008-Santa Cruz-Basic Information.pdf from
the googlegroup.

The initial 20 spots that I reserved have been filled, but it’s early
enough that I can add more. At present, the list includes the
following: Campbell, Hendrix, Mansers, Paspolof, Nay, Porter, Meador,
Bush, Squyres, & Dasilva. I’ll coordinate with our vendors for
another 10 spots. Don’t wait until the last minute as the boat can
fill with day trippers and transports to the other islands. Lastly
when you RSVP, let me know if you would prefer an 8 AM or 12 noon
Friday departure to the island. We can split the group.

Andy,

How about you taking the group at 8 and I will take the group at noon?

That will work. Let's see how the final split falls. We will have to split up the group gear/food too.

Good question. I don't know and recommend checking  with Amtrak. I'm not sure where station is relative to docks.  Friday would likely work with metrolink to LA then Ventura. Sunday return would have limited time options. Let us know if you find something that works.

Andy,

Can you check with boat company? They might have some answers.I need to know closest station to get Amtrak schedule.

Greg-

The nearest station is about 2 miles away:

Ventura, CA (VEC)
Harbor Boulevard and Figueroa Street
Ventura, CA 93003

I spoke with the Island Packers and there is taxi (808-850-9200) and shuttle service (805-643-3158) available if you can work out a schedule.

I was planning on having my boys miss a day of school and I a day of
work.
There is a boat out of Ventura to Santa Cruz on Saturday morning at 8 AM
if missing work or school is not a possibility.

We hate to miss school as well; however, we can't pass up this opportunity so yes we're skipping school!

Think of it as a home school field trip.
To make it legit, I'll work in some island history and biology/geology into the challenges.
