project could control a helicopter.
This project currently only supports airplanes, but with some small
software changes, it might be able to stabilize and navigate a
helicopter too.
The hardware should work very well for a helicopter, since it includes
support for a range sensor, which could be used to keep the helicopter
hovering at a set distance above the ground.
The one potential problem for a helicopter is that octopilot only has
gyroscopes for rotation around 2 axes (pitch and roll). Your
helicopter will need to have a built-in yaw-gyro to stabilize the
heading.
