Octomap vs Octomap_server

Ok I am trying to create an octomap with ROS. I installed octomap and octoviz using apt-get, but I am confused because i don't have octomap_server. Should i be compiling octomap_server and octomap_mapping in a workspace for ROS? If not, where do I get the launch files and examples? There doesn't seem to be any documentation on how to use the "octomap" package, everyone seems to be using octomap_server.

Also, how to do i convert a point cloud to octomap in real time?

octomap_server is part of the octomap_mapping package.
