NWOCTA Chapter members,
A large number of chapter members attended the NWOCTA annual meeting at the Highcliffe in Oregon City on Saturday.
It seems that we have really arrived in the
electronic age in OCTA. A number of people who shared
information also provided website links, and those of us in
attendance were working hard to get the information down on
paper somewhere. I suggested that people should email those
links and that information to me, and I would distribute it by
email to our chapter members. (Those without email will have
to wait until the next newsletter to get this information.)
There were lots of interesting reports; and
many opportunities to view further information online were
offered.
The schedule of outings for 2012 was provided (see PDF.) It can also be seen at the NWOCTA website.
Travis Boley, our Association Manager, attended to provide an update on what was happening at the national level, and let us know about the results of the board meeting held in early March. He also shared information about the Events for the “Texas Pathways, El Camino Real and the Southern Route to California – Trails that Shaped the Face of Texas.“ (https://www.eventville.com/catalog/eventregistration1.asp?eventid=1009049)
Others provided information about preservation, mapping and marking and more.
I have already received links or comments from several people who were at Saturday's meeting, and I’ll share them today. If others of you have website links or other information that you want to share with the chapter, please do provide me with the details. I’ll get your information posted, or sent on via email.
Our preservation officer, Bill Symms, provided this great website with information about the Oregon Department of Energy Facility Siting. Check out Antelope Ridge Wind Farm, and the Boardman to Hemingway Route. www.oregon.gov/energy/siting/review.shtml
Jim Tompkins brought a new children’s book, West to Oregon with Ollie Ox!, to our attention. The author, Melanie Dundy, attended our meeting and provided both a link (www.westtooregon.com) and a PDF (attached) of information about it.
Roger Blair sent along the following Call for Papers for the 2014 convention to be held in Oregon City.
Call for Papers to be presented at the 2013 annual convention, which the NWOCTA Chapter is hosting. If you have a scholarly topic to share, please submit your abstract for consideration. If you know of a good speaker/topic, forward the Call (see attached PDF) to them or submit their contact information to me and I will make the contact. Also, if you know of good workshop topics and leaders, I would like to have that information as well. You can help make the 2013 convention a success.
The Call for Papers information is also posted on the NWOCTA website.
Suzanne Hornbuckle provided the following link to information about the Olympia Chapter No. 4 of the Daughters of the Pioneers of Washington. Do take a look! http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~waocdpw/crosby.htm
There was more information mentioned about the Hugo Association, about the Mullen Road, about the Meeker Marker rededication, and about a new marker in Echo. Stay tuned to get more information when people send it along to me.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
