FOR YOUR IMMEDIATE ATTENTION:  1,000 Letters by Wed., May 24!

SAMPLE LETTER ATTACHED!

Dear Odyssey and Oasis families,

Charter Schools in the State of Florida receive approximately 25% less in revenue than their traditional public school counterparts.  We are asking for all parents, students and faculty members to seize this opportunity to ask our Governor to support HB7069 to bring additional, much needed funding to your child’s charter school. This bill has passed both the House and Senate and awaits the Governor’s signature.  If he vetoes this bill, we will have lost a tremendous opportunity.  This bill would go a long way in providing funds that your students deserve.

We say let your tax money follow your child into the school of your choice.  Your tax dollars spent on education (local millage) will finally come into the school you have chosen rather than be sent to the district for traditional public schools.  Title 1 federal funds will be paid to us entirely, rather than going to pay for district staff that we see very little of.  These additional funds will bring in additional dollars that may be spent on funding much needed faculty positons, salaries, program and infrastructure improvements, and will definitely greatly enhance the quality of your child’s education at our schools.  And we all know that we aim to offer only the best!

Once again, it is absolutely important that our charter school parents, families, students, staff and teachers take immediate action to support HB 7069*. We are asking that you write a letter to the governor urging him to sign the bill into law, and that you do so within the next 7 days.

All letters collected at our schools by Wednesday of next week (5/24), we will bundle together and sent via overnight mail directly to Governor Scott.

We are including a link to the FCPS Fact Sheet so you can find out more information. http://floridacharterschools.org/FCPCS_2017_Fact_Sheet_Online.pdf

*HB7069: Provides funding for charter schools through the sharing of the capital millage with the school districts and ensures that Title 1 funds flow directly to charter schools to provide additional services that our students deserve.

Please include the following to in your letters:

  • Name of charter school students attend or that the teacher works at.
  • Express Support for HB7069
  • Use wording from the definition of the bill as detailed in the box above.

If you would prefer to send your letters directly, rather than return to the schools, please mail or email your letters of support to:

The Honorable Rick Scott

Office of the Governor

Plaza Level 05

400 S. Monroe Street

Tallahassee, FL 32399
EMAIL: http://www.flgov.com/contact-gov-scott/email-the-governor/

Our goal is to collect 1,000 letters by Wednesday.  Will you take a few moments to support your child’s school?  We need you today more than ever!!!

Superintendent Blackburn has come out against this bill.  We are rallying for your right to determine that funding follows your child into the school of your choice.  You pay taxes, let’s make them count.
