The San Francisco Film Society is proud to present a full range of
Filmmaker Education classes designed to help students at all levels
gather the knowledge and skills they need to succeed as filmmakers--
from concept and creation to execution and exhibition. Our instructors
are working professionals with a passion for nurturing filmmakers at
all stages of their careers. The Winter/Spring 2009 schedule begins
January 29 and continues on through April with 23 classes on offer.
Below is a brief description of some of our courses; for information
on all our classes and their instructors, visit sffs.org.

"Launch Your Screenplay" runs eight weeks, meeting three hours per
week, and introduces you to the art of storytelling for the screen,
serving as the first course of the Film Society's new Narrative
Writing Sequence, which is intended to guide you to complete a
screenplay, rewrite it and fine-tune it. $345 SFFS member/$375
general.

"Complete the Journey" runs twelve weeks, meeting three hours per
week, taking you through Act II, the major journey of the story, and
Act III of your screenplay, where the arcs of the plot, theme and
major characters culminate. $425 SFFS member/$455 general.

"Shooting Digital Video" with Jason Wolos is perfect for first-time
shooters and people who want to improve their shooting skills, this
two-part class will cover the basic operations of DV cameras as well
as aesthetic considerations with in-class shooting assignments. $150
SFFS members/$175 general.

"Meet the Maker: Jay Rosenblatt" has completed more than 25 films and
received over 100 awards for his work, so take advantage of this
unique opportunity to get up close as Jay shares clips of his work and
discusses his creative process. $50 SFFS members/$60 general.

"The Aesthetics of Editing" examines the many elements that editors
must keep in mind when cutting a film. Students will analyze early
versions of scenes from documentary and narrative works. Ideal for
editors at all levels of proficiency, this class also is geared toward
non-editors who wish to gain more insight into the creative side of
editing, both to improve their interactions with editors and to inform
their directorial choices. $50 SFFS members/$60 general.
