Edge crud removal.

What is the best way to remove the edge crud from input images,
StandardPreprocessing isn't quite doing the job (close but not
perfect).

I've run through the attached image through the StandardPreprocessing
and done some other magic to get the attached binarized image.

Also if you have any ideas on the best way to remove the image (as
mentioned in previous post), I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Many thanks for your input, I'm enjoying looking around the source
code and hope to understand the framework enough soon to be able to
contribute some of the code I've written in a way the is as modular as
expected.
