Dear Orange County Staff,

Please share this information with our community. Let us know if you have any questions or need any assistance.

SNAP Benefits

The Orange County Department of Social Services (DSS) is alerting residents that Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits—also known as Food and Nutrition Services (FNS)—may not be issued in November 2025 if the ongoing federal government shutdown continues and no contingency funds are made available by the federal government.

Orange County Social Services is coordinating closely with state agencies and monitoring federal updates related to SNAP funding and distribution schedules.

In preparation for potential benefit delays or reductions, Orange County DSS and the N.C. Cooperative Extension – Orange County Center are working with local food banks and community organizations to plan for increased demand for food assistance.

If you need emergency food support or want to help:

1.                  View and share the informational 11 x 17 poster about local food resources (also attached): https://www.orangecountync.gov/DocumentCenter/View/35515/November-SNAP-Benefits-May-be-Delayed-or-Temporarily-Unavailable

2.                  Find a full list of available food assistance programs at go.ncsu.edu/feedorangecounty.

For questions or immediate assistance, contact Orange County DSS at (919) 245-2800 or email dss...@orangecountync.gov.

More information is available at Orangecountync.gov/DSS and ncdhhs.gov/FNS

Strategic Communication Survey

Orange County is committed to strengthening trust and building stronger partnerships with our community. We know that some residents may not always be pleased with county government — you might even be frustrated or upset. That’s exactly why their feedback is so important. We want to hear honest opinions about how we can improve communication, deliver services more effectively, and create better opportunities for civic engagement.

Today is the final day to take our community survey. Your perspective matters — especially if you haven’t felt heard before.
