ATTENTION: This is a LaserDisc, not a Vinyl Record, and not a DVD!! You must have a LaserDisc player to watch this and that player must be able to play NTSC format discs. Hidden just beyond the outskirts of Southern California lies a hidden wilderness, the treacherous Avocado Belt. Inhabiting the heart of this jungle paradise are the Piranha Women, a tribe of man eaters as fierce and deadly as they are beautiful and seductive. Note anthropologist Margo Hunt, Shannon Tweed (Cagney & Lacey) is searching for the long-lost Dr. Kurtz (Adrienne Barbeau, Maude, Escape From New York). Dr. Hunt is accompanied by her assistant Bunny and wisecracking guide Bill Maher (Ratboy, Rags To Riches). Together they embark upon a hilarious journey through the hostile jungle in hope of making discovering secret cannibal dip which men have come to fear: Guacamole.
We spot play test all used LaserDiscs (with the exception of our Budget titles) and will note any signs of laser rot we may find. LD's that have never been opened we obviously cannot guarantee their state.
We encourage you to view all the pictures and read our comments on the conditions, as we find these to be more beneficial than a standard grade. Occasionally we'll use a grade range (ie: VG / VG+) for either disc or cover if condition is borderline and hard to stick in one category.
LaserDisc - only given to sealed discs, or films we personally acquired new, opened them but never played. Of course since the disc is sealed we cannot guarantee there are no pressing flaws or minor warping, or Laser Rot, and since LaserDiscs are out of print, we cannot except returns or exchanges on sealed records that have been opened.
Cover - cover is damaged to a point where it is not usable to house a record. All the seams are split, the panels are moldy, major writing all over, etc. The only time we'll list something with a cover in this shape is if it's rare or the disc is in great shape.
Rest assured, unlike MANY sellers and even large companies, we know how to ship vinyl (and LaserDiscs) correctly! We used high quality mailers, two to three cardboard stiffners and if the album you are buying is used it is shipped outside the cover to prevent damage to the seams in transit. When it comes to shipping LaserDiscs we don't always ship outside the cover as in transit seam wear is not as common. If you want your discs shipped outside the cover feel free to note that at checkout in the message box.
In this musical Disney adaptation of a Rudyard Kipling tale, Mowgli, a boy raised by wolves, shares jungle adventures with Baloo the Bear. This is a two disc CAV Edition.Buyer agrees to add $3.50 for shipping in the US, outside the US pays cost
DisneyPedia: Junglemania! is aimed at children, but covers a lot of informational ground in an entertaining fashion. Running 14:19, the featurette combines generous footage from The Jungle Book and archival live-action nature material and looks at all the major animals represented in the animated movie and their place in the jungles of India. Fun With Learning Games completes this section, with four games aimed at very young children. These are actually more useful than the fancy ones above, being very easy tools to help develop text and vocal association by image prodding. Four games are included, with the final two selected via the InterActual DVD-ROM interface bundled on the disc.
The Frank & Ollie clip outlined above was featured before on a 30th Anniversary CAV LaserDisc edition, for which the 15 minute Making Of A Musical Masterpiece was also created. This was a decent potted history that would have supplemented the material on the disc nicely, perhaps even being the perfect mini-doc for the first disc.
The LD also featured an original theatrical trailer, a glaring omission here. The Jungle Book has seen several reissues throughout its 40 years, and while the Snow White Platinum Edition was great for including at least one trailer from each of its reissues, here we get none even though there are at least three I know of that are all fun and exciting. Indeed, the film is under-represented by any final publicity materials in the set.
Another CD release, of the original soundtrack, featured an interview with the Sherman Brothers. Obviously cut down to fit on the disc, their segment also included some original demo material, which would have been another major bonus here.
Throughout the documentary and hinted at in the stills is the footage shot of Louis Prima and his band in the recording studio. This is pretty legendary material, and it would have been absolutely fantastic to have seen that included, along with any other remaining fragments of The Jungle Book production footage. The Jungle Book seems to have been a well-documented production, all the more frustrating that we only catch glimpses of such material in these supplements.
