Download the reason installer from the account section of the propellerhead website. (If you have the original CD then you can skip downloading and adjust these instructions appropriately). The installation files should be in a .zip file, you will need to extract these to a folder somewhere (right-click on the .zip file and select "Extract All...").
Firstly you need to retrieve an image of the rebirth cd. This is available via a bittorrent magnet link or you may be able to find it via google by searching for "rebirth_iso_installation.iso" or "rebirth_iso_installation.zip". However there are a vast number of questionable sites purporting to provide a .torrent but instead providing suspicious .exe files so I highly recommend using the magnet link to avoid all that nonsense. If noone is seeding the first torrent, I also found a second torrent. If you're not sure which bittorrent client to use, I recommend an open source one like Deluge - some of the closed source clients are full of dodgy adverts.
Insert the burnt CD, or mount the iso in CloneDrive as you will need this when you launch ReBirth. There is an installer on the CD however this doesn't work with 64-bit windows so you will need an alternative. Some kind chap has made a 64-bit compatible installer which you can find at sendspace, or via bittorrent. The 64-bit installer will place ReBirth into a fixed location: for me it was "C:\ReBirth RB-338\". Once it has finished running you must navigate to this directory and perform a few actions before you run ReBirth.
hoping someone will be able to help me out. Installed rebirth after and winhlp32 but when I start rebirth it crashes after the benchmark box. I can run the benchmark fine but when I click to close it out the rebirth window disappeas and I get a window for windows help??
Unfortunately ron's suggestion didnt work for me on win10 x64. (as of jan '16). on closer inspection the script provided by komeil was failing during icacls, so I simply took ownership and applied full permissions to win32hlp.exe and win32hlp.exe.mui in the windows directory using explorer.
Then I had to source the winXP x64 version of winhelp. the versions in komeil's cab didn't work for me (got error 9009). I used the one here: -discussion/16982-cant-read-older-hlp-files-windows-10-a-post374021.html#post374021
If anyone can help me I'd go insane with happiness. I have many rebirth song files I've written over the years that I'd like to use for production now, but my Rebirth installation CD was lost many moons ago. To my amazement I found a torrent of it, and also an installer for 64bit windows 8.1. I got it up and running and was able to load and work on my tracks! And then I that's when I noticed, "Export Lopp as Audio File" is grayed out. It appears I have a Demo copy of Rebirth. Can anyone direct me to a full torrent, or a way to enabled full functionality in my copy? I am just so angry at Propellerheads for not keeping this available for everyone who wants it..
if anyone is having problems installing rebirth there is a packaged rar file with everything from Windows 7-Windows 10 32bit and 64bit installation files. Worked fine for me. Very straight forward easy to use.
I have a major issue...
Is it possible at all to run it without WinHlp32? I run Windows 10 and the update patch that you list from Microsoft doesn't work. It says that it's no longer available for Windows 10. There's a thing that shows how to run WinHlp32 on windows 10 and I quote:
i have got it working on win 10 64
just download winhelp for win 7 then
unzip and right click on install file and click edit
under the "settings" text add this
set WindowsVersion=7
goto :BypassVersionError
then save the file
then run as administrator and rebirth will work
Only problem is... when I download the WinHlp update patch from your link, which is in .msu format, and try to modify it as described in the above quote, it just gives me a bunch of gibberish when I open it in Notepad. How do I "unzip" it??? It can't be unzipped! Please help, i don't know if this site is active anymore, but if it is, then please tell me how it works!!!
Digging around today I found a way to get it to work on windows 10 64, as a stand-alone, but no luck getting the rebirth bridge to work tho with Ableton 8. * it shows up
in Ableton, but when I start Rebirth is mentions something about Cubase?
got it all set up and running. except for the input machine. I dont get an error, but the "active" light in the rebirth input machine is not green and no signal seems to be coming in. any idea? help is greatly aapreciated. i'm stuck here....
for those who seem to have a problem with the rebirth input machine in Reason not picking up on Rebirth (the light not showing as active and no signal coming from it either), you have to go to the Rebirth installation folder/directory and right-click on the ReWire.reg file and select "merge" from the context menu
When you download the app on the pc/mac iTunes it actually makes a full backup for the app. You can right click on the app and click "show in explorer" (on windows. Mac should have a similar option). It should take you to the actual .ipa file. Back this up wherever. I keep local and Dropbox copies of these. To install the app again long after it's gone from the App Store is as simple as double clicking it so it gets added to the local iTunes library. You can then make itunes install it to the iOS device. Keep in mind the IPA is forever linked to the iTunes account associated with it so you can't share it with others. But yes, you can install it to newer iOS devices as well.
i bought rebirth ten years ago and is no longer compatible with my windows vista...
now i would like to dl it for but cant find it ..
help me out ppl , greets xaviermatrix aka deejay style-x
rebirth is responsible for all these kiddies doing messy acid house with the same boring old sounds. the occaisional 303 line can be handled, but there is more innovative software (and music) around these days, so explore elsewhere people
Yep, i agree, there are loads of less fashionable soft synths out there that are much cheaper and better to use, fruity and orion. Ive got better VSTi's than rebirth, simsynth live sounds much more like an authentic synth than the 303 in rebirth, and the 909 is just a collection of samples. use fruity and collect thousands of your own samples and arrange them in a much easier way. Rebirth was fine in its day, but now its very dated.
hello there, my name is Dimitris and I would like to ask some questions.I m a rebirth user for about 3 years now...I was "playing" with RB with different kinds of music, such as:techno, ambient, house, trance etc...Finally I decided that the music that worths most,is house music, deep house, something like Digweed or deep dish.I am trying hard to make house, but something isnt right!I am really good in Drum programming,so this is not the problem. In my opinion the problem is the bassline...I can not make it sound right and LOUD!!!!I have a Pentium 3 and sb live platinum.(except from RB I use and other programs such as ACID,SOUNDFORGE to add background samples)can you please help me?
"ReBirth 2.0.1 is the software reincarnation of two analog bassline synths and two classic drum machines. We've also thrown in a digital delay, a quad-input distortion unit, a compressor and an analog filter emulation unit, the PCF (Pattern Controlled Filter). All the quirks and subtle qualities of analog, combined with the convenience of modern computers (a minimum of cables, integration with your sequencer software, complete front panel automation, real-time audio streaming and much more)." - Propellerhead Software.
