Hi - ..I cleaned up and slightly modified the synopsis for charlie to
use in talking with both internal and external folks...and have emailed
it directly to him.

I need to figure out an easy way to share it with everyone on google
docs (I removed the earlier version of this doc.) -as well as the
perfect doc Michael J-L created specifically for outreach to the
community..also attached here.

Hi! So good to see you on here! Have you had a chance to mess with those equip lists so we have that stuff/costs - including and short term loaned or donated gear as current as possible?

The first question ..ok..maybe the 2nd question will be ' what will it cost?' so the more solid data we have re costs- the more realistic will be setting up positive revenue streams be to feed this thing!

Also..has sandra bauer been added to this group? I can't make it happen...or can I/we?!

pardon formatting and typos..thumb typing on a crowded bus.......jim

Hi Jim and all.

I printed out the summaries for the BOD retreat this weekend.

I looked at the equipment lists and think it could be done near the cheapest level.

I have been pushing for space in the Community center design for a media room, which could be used for this project, and video conferencing.

The biggest problem I would see is hiring a person to manage it. The BOD has several other positions it would be inclined to fill first...volunteer facilitator...grantwriter...etc. I think any personel position would have to be filled by fundraising.

Peaches,
Paxton

First..many thanks to paxton for presenting this to our board. If me coming down after mid november for any sort of strategy meeting would help, i am totally down to make the visit.

Re the hiring of anyone, i will caution against getting too far into the weeds- but rather fold any personnnel costs..from an engineer to the person certifying the tower to a coordinator be folded into the ops budget for the radio as a whole.

In reality- many funders get nervous when dealing with an all volunteer project..just how it is...and this may become too complex to leave to a volunteer who can walk away as well as walk in.

in a conversation with charlie, we addressed this very issue and He also felt a compensated person would be essential- but again, that is one person and we need to stay on the big picture.

Let's get solid bod support on the concept and timeline and possible funding scenerios..and go from there.

thoughts?

Jim, I just finished reading both documents. It's great to see it organized.

We probably aren't at this stage yet, but since it is expected that the station should be self-sustaining at some point, do you think that one of the goal should be to licensing/distributing/syndicating our unique content? The Fair has a lot to offer, and if done right this might be an option.

Do you folks know the particulars of syndication? How does it work? How to market/distribute the content?

Some of my favorite programming is syndicated: Radio Lab and Car Talk are great.  :-)

absolutely YES!!

We are absolutely at the stage to be collecting information and developing draft plans for others to then review and collaborate on.

We need to explore every crazy (and not so crazy) scheme we can dream up to pay for this adventure.
