Here's some wow technology.  I do hope Google buys this technology and integrates it with Google Translate and makes it available to all Android smartphones.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2OfQdYrHRs

it's only a matter of time before iOS joins MacOS as the platform you port to, after you've finished developing for the platform with the most users.

First of all the article you linked is a minority speculative view from a tiny minority, perhaps only two people Akshay Kothari  and MG Siegler.  Brad if you are a regular at Techcrunch, you should know that MG Siegler is the biggest Apple pimp/pusher in the world.  He'll defend anything Apple even playing Devil's Advocate to it's biggest faults and has been doing that for years.  I haven't seen him make any critical statements about Apple through the years, at least as far as I know of and if he ever does he skims over those and let's them off the hook.  Just two day before he wrote that he doesn't care about who is the market leader knowing well that Android is going to zoom past iOS as most analysts noted.  It doesn't help that Apple has exclusive deal with AT&T concerning iPhone (not including iPad ) until 2012 and that is verified from court documents.  Anyway MG Siegler wrote:

"I couldn’t care less if the iPhone or Android is the market leader. All I want is the ability to choose which device I want to use. And I’m sure that’s Google’s stance on the matter as well."

Siegler is conceding to what is inevitable without saying it directly.  Android is just hitting critical mass, a point where things get hot and sustainable, in other words their growth rate will speed up even faster in 2011.  Remember Android is represented by the Open Handset Alliance (OHA) which makes up 79+ OEM  hardware manufacturer and phone carriers http://www.openhandsetalliance.com/index.html. So if you are pitting Apple with Android, you are pitting Android against not just Google but Apple vs. 79+ powerful technology companies. The 300,000 Android activations a day is just the beginning.  I also expect more technology companies to join OHA, possibly Nokia and RIM as their platform weakens overtime as Android's becomes "the dominant platform" to join.  Taking critical mass into consideration I expect to see Android's number at least double next year, and that's being very conservative, maybe triple toward 900,000 activations per day leaning toward a million.  Much of this is due to  "the perfect storm" .  Read how important this factor is.  http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2010/12/14/andy-rubin-android-perfect-storm-brewing-in-emerging-markets/
You will also see more companies join OHA.   You might want to read this too.  http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2010/12/22/2011-will-be-the-year-android-explodes/

The new decade is dawning upon us.  Here's to an awesome Android Decade (and beyond) and to the unlimited possibilities Android's openness will inspire us all to dream the impossible dream and create and innovate.  So Brad, now you to can dream the impossible dream courtesy of Android.     http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGSYAYZjI5k Let's celebrate!
