I logged into netbank (comm bank) to see if i had sufficient funds on my card to pay for the month. I did but i also noticed a security message from commbank to approve a payment to netflix (it was blocked because it was a US service) i had to call commbank and say that it was me and to approve the payment.
It has now been a few days and my card is still being rejected from netflix, do you think commbank is still rejecting my card or my card is frozen all together? i haven't used it since i received the security message.
It's just an email with the code. You can either check if you can find any on ebay for cheaper (not too cheap though and from someone with feedback also) or simply grab it from Netflix (that's if your card works).
How are people going with the cheap gift cards from ebay? I read somewhere that these are often fraudulent and cancelled mid-subscription. Has anyone had that occur? Any especially reliable ebay vendors?
Merchants with electronic payment systems get a response that verifies your credit card billing address with the nominated post/zip code. If your credit card has an international billing address and you put in a US zip code they will know about it and potentially flag it as fraudulent and deny the transaction.
i use a travel money card from the commonwealth bank its a prepaid credit card that uses multiple currencies this way im paying for netflix in u.s. dollars and don't pay a currency conversion fee every month
I am pretty sure i read some where that your credit card (somewhere in the numbers...might be last 4 digits) is your post code and all you have to do is find a US Zip code with those same numbers as your post code like this
If you live in Newcastle NSW 2300
Your last 4 digits of your credit card might be 3022 or 3002 or 2003

There payment system might be having problems as i purchased a gift card and entered it into my account in Netflix and all was ok but when i tried to check my account it came up with:
"We're currently experiencing technical difficulties. Please try again in a few minutes
" ....been like it for 2 days now
One word... Ebay ;-)
i am just finishing my 1st Ebay bought 6 month one and purchased the new one "from different seller" and just wanted to check and make sure its there applied to my account but i keep getting the above message...
The reason it is difficult is that we are trying to get around a form of Copyright control..... Netflix only have a license to distribute their material in that country (be it USA, Canada, UK etc).... and each has different content due to that licensing.
Sounds like my experience try signing up to Netflix with Citibank Plus Account Visa & 1 of the big four banks CC & Visa debit without luck with US zip constructed from my postcode. Got a load & go registered in my name & dob with real US address & Zip in Oregon (I used a hotel) and it worked straight away.
I think that's because they keep plugging loopholes.... and then someone finds another.... so they increase the level of checking and that catches out those who previously were OK..... occasionally a new check might break one of the earlier ones as well :) etc.
I also think it will only be a matter of time before the checks and balances will catch us all out.... and that will be about the time Netflix Australia is introduced.... smaller range and higher price but that will be the only version of Netflix we will have access to (unless you have a friend or relative in the US who can set up an account over there for you to use).
Your credit card verification requires a valid country of origin postcode (4 digit Australian if using a local CC) and netflix (and other providers like ITV in the UK) require a valid in country postcode/zipcode when registering (5 digits for the US.... and a mix of Alpha numerics if signing up for ITV)
As Groover1964 is in WA. a quick check of a 6xxx postcode or two reveals both a leading and a trailing zero generally give valid zipcodes.... so depending on your state and your postcode here in Aus.....
EDIT:
And if you get through all of the above, there is a good chance when the transaction arrives your credit card company will refuse to pay and lock the account as the transaction has arrived with "dodgy details" from overseas.
And now that it looks like Netflix have stopped selling "gift cards" retail..... that's yet another door slammed shut.... and they might have stopped new wholesale sales of gift cards as well.... which could see an end to internet sales of their cards once existing stocks run out.
I have tried all of the above except for purchasing a Netflix card from ebay as posted above, unfortunately without success, but my son is happy with his load and go Visa card. The WA seller had sold out before I could get a 12 month one.
There is the link above that one with some left but has anyone picked one up from them?
Any help with providing a new gift code seller would be great.
Cheers.
Yeah I used to bill through iTunes, it's quite easy if you have a US iTunes account set up. I used Off Gamers to buy iTunes gift cards. I recently changed to using a Netflix gift card, purchased a cheap one off eBay, expecting it to be cancelled any time now then I'll probably move back to iTunes billing.
I use A Virgin Velocity frequent flyer prepaid visa.
I have no problems with Netflix or Hulu+ payments (although I am on a free Hulu+ trial, but it accepted my card as I had to put a credit card number in to sign up).
You have to use an email you have never used with Netflix before. Log into ATV with your US Itunes account and go to Netflix and start the free trial, it will ask you to log in with your Itunes account.
I got the new c/c issued as my bank suspected that mine was compromised so I tried to update the payment for Netflix and the new card didn't work. Tried multitude of diferent methods but none of them worked.
Just a quick update.
I was finally able to create an account by using a WD TV Live box to login and complete the form with a Load and Go card. When I tried using a browser it would always fail and not accept the card.
there aren't that many and you are paying about the same amount as paying each month individually. Netflix has clamped down the Netflix gift card in recent time and even eBay sellers are now shipping the actual card to you rather than sending the code via e-mail.
I have a quick question re the DNS options. I currently use Unblock US but noticed the monthly price for GetFlix is cheaper ($4.99 v's $2.95). Is there any issue with changing DNS provider, ie. will NetFlix be expecting my account to come via the Unblock US DNS?
Great, thanks. This has been a very helpful thread.
One other question, I have just ordered a Roku 3 and will be testing this later in the week. Has anyone else got one of these and how are they running?
As part of transitioning my banking from Commbank to Citibank, I went to put my new Citibank Platinum credit card in, but it just threw up the 'There appears to be a problem with your card' error. I rang Citibank and they confirmed that the problem was not at their end. I then did a new entry of my existing Commbank Mastercard but it too was rejected.
the trick I believe is having the postcode of the US address matching with your c/c post code. For example if the c/c postcode is 2050 the US paypal address should be 02050 which is for Marshfield MA.
also remember that the e-mail address of your us paypal should be the same as your Netfilx user e-mail address.

Tried this (happily, Brunswick East 3057 is Mont Vernon NH 03057), but it still didn't work (I did use a fake address though; perhaps I need to be on North Main Street). I will see if I can confirm the card.
I think I'll see how I go with a Load and Go card, because it should be straightforward to set up an automatic transfer of $10 per month from Citibank to it. If that fails, I'll just use my US iTunes account...
Just following on from this post my trial ended and the first payment was accepted over the weekend no problems on a westpac altitude visa card. I used Utah as the state when I signed up which had nothing to do with my aussie postcode but in hindsight I should have picked a state without sales tax!
I use this card for overseas purchases a bit so I wonder if the banks stopping payments for some people has anything to do with no history of previous overseas transactions? Obviously this has no effect on netflix rejecting the card.
I love to be in a marketing meeting at Netflix. Well Johnson we are doing well in zip code 90210. We have sold more accounts there than there are people in the zone. We just need to apply this to the rest of the country.
I signed up to Netflix and then tried my Citibank Visa card which rejected due to error with the CCV. I then purchased an Australia Post Load&Go card, adding my real Australian address and this also rejected. I updated the postcode to a valid US Oregon postcode and the Load&Go card still failed. After reading this post I created a new email account, found a US hotel address and phone number in Delaware (no US sales tax state) added this as the Load&Go card address. I then created new Netflix account using the new email account and used the Load&Go card to successfully access Netflix.
