On Spam

I'm sorry to report (or confirm as you likely will have seen) that we were hit with two offensive emails yesterday.  I have removed them from the Group site so they are not part of our archive.  We've had the list for nearly two years now.  It is a closed list and should not have been susceptible.  Unfortunately the spammers keep getting smarter and apparently having a closed-to-posting list does not matter today.

Beyond being intrusive and unwelcome, these types of emails will undermine the usefulness of the list.  The resolution to this is to go change to a "moderated" list.   Today, everything anyone in the group (and now apparently a spam-bot) posts goes immediately to the group.  A moderated list requires someone to review the post and "approve" it before it is posted.  This particular solution will also keep the discussions in the public view, one of our stated objectives.

Effective this morning, I  have changed the list to a moderated list.  The impact to the group is that you may see a slight delay before your post appears.  This will give us an opportunity to confirm it's committee business, and not someone extolling the virtues of viagra or red dresses.  Be assured this is not an editorial process, simply one of list hygiene.  

List Status

In checking on the list this morning I found three members of the group have their email bouncing due to bad email addresses.  These are either ZAPer committee members or  subcommittee volunteers.  If our co-chairs or other members have their current email addresses please let me know and I'll update the list:
