General Assembly Notes 10/15/11

Move Your Money Day, special focus on Bank Of America on the week of
November 5th:

discussion on a potentional action locally on the Bank of America in
coordination with a national effort that week for customers to
withdraw from the bank and put them money in local institutions and
credit unions. It was stated that the proper steps would be
withdrawing your fund and then closing the account allowing you to
avoid a $35 transfer fee.

It was suggested that the downtown location would not be suitable on a
Saturday as it has little to no business.

Awareness of recent actions taken against Citibank customers was
discussed regarding bank rules that you cannot be a customer and a
protester at the same time. Some Citibank customers were arrested for
closing their accounts while protesters were present.

Comment: Support your local credit unions.

Jennifer Gagnon spoke of her plans to gather medical supplies to take
to the Medical Tent at the Occupy Wall Street Movement in NYC. Anna
indicated she was working with others who were coordinating efforts to
collect hats and scarves to take, and the suggestion was made of
taking all these things together.

(We need to set up a sharing network for items between occupy
movements so that we all have access to medicinal supplies, warm
clothing for the winter and possibly food, literature, etc. possible
group or sub-committee? -Franklin)

4 new COMMITTEES PROPOSED:

MESSAGE - Develop the message of our local movement

LOCAL ACTION - Develop actions we can take locally to forward the aims
of the movement

DONATION - Develop a reasonable and visible means to keep up with
donations

OCCUPY - Develop a strategy to make the presence of the Movement
stronger in the Park and in Knoxville

@ mid-day Volunteers and Facilitators grouped and formed the substance
of the 4 Committees and spent time developing initial strategies and
statements of purpose to propose in front of the entire GA.

General Assembly PROPOSALS:

PROPOSAL: Split Media into 3 subcommittees: Press, Web & Print

PROPOSAL: More creative forms of protest, such as visual arts and
performance theatre (GREENDRAGONS.ORG - this is a performance troupe
(puppeteer?) in NYC - see about having them perform in Knoxville)

PROPOSAL: Create an account on the White House Petition site to sign
the petition initiated by Joe Carson, a Safety Engineer for the DOS.
www.broken-covenant.org - the purpose of which is to task the
Attorney Generals Office to issue a final opinion on 3 Civil Service
Laws.
(GOOD NEWS, this proposal was acted on the same night and many
occupiers have already signed.)

PROPOSAL:All Committees were agreed upon by consensus and the GA
agreed that Public Forums should start with Dinner in the Park from 5
to 8.


All proposals were passed by consensus. Each Committee will provide a
progress update and initiate proposals at the next General Assembly on
10/25/11.


Thanks to our Facilitator Nathan, who stayed after the march and
trained two more facilitators.
