Hi friends,
We have multiple events this week and fresh fliers to hang for the GA (see attachment).
Please feel empowered to hang fliers as "autonomous actions" and post the results to Facebook so as to inspire further flier hanging.
Let me know if you need copies.
Also, if we can have lots of folks having organizing conversations and capturing contact info at this week's events we can really grow our movement as May 1st approaches.
Please feel encouraged to pass contact info along to the outreach working group so we can use it to get people out to May 1st.
Solidarity,
J

| The Black Student Union and the ALANA Community will be having a rally, "Awareness Rally for Trayvon Martin's Murder and Racial Profiling in Burlington. The aim of this rally is to create or enhance awareness of race crimes, racial profiling and other issues. In addition we hope the rally will potentially bring to light the RACISM people of color face in this country especially in Burlington.

| There will be a community meeting to discuss the results of a new report which found large racial disparities for African Americans in traffic stops rates in Burlington and South Burlington.
Quoting the study's summary "Black stop rates per 1000 black residents 18 and over are approximately double white stop rates in Burlington and South Burlington, and are 25% higher than the white rate at UVM. [...] In Burlington and South Burlington, blacks are arrested at a significantly higher rate than whites, subsequent to a stop."
The community meeting is a public forum for all of the communities to participate in a discussion of the report and next steps. We will make more progress on this issue with the community's involvement, so I hope you can be there.
