Hi All,
So yesterday only Jack and I were here at our weekly scheduled meeting. This is really frustrating.

There is so much to do but yet our Strategic Planning WG does not meet with any sort of regularity at all!

I'd rather disband than pretend we are planning strategy for OV if we are not committed to doing so.
It is horrible energetically for OV.

Can we commit to meeting regualrly? Should we make it another time/day?
Or should we fold until we have more people/committment?

I have very, very limited time to commit and I'd rather actually work in another group if we are not going to do more consistant work here.

Please advise.

Thanks,
Deborah

Hey Deborah,

Sorry about that; yesterday was the SoCal InterOccupy in LA all day long, which Lauren, Wes, and I attended. Because you mentioned that we shouldn't skip meetings in case someone shows up, I didn't suggest canceling.

I don't think we should disband solely because of yesterday, which was, imo, a sort of special circumstance, although SoCal InterOccupy meetups will continue to be held once a month for the foreseable future (the next one is scheduled for 4/22 in Long Beach), and I would like to continue attending (I'm going to suggest a break-out group on strategy for the next one, btw).

However, as Bob said in one of the GAs, since people always come in and out of groups due to their changing availability and interest, maybe we need to do more outreach to maintain the survival of the group...? For instance, one of us could go to the LAGA to recruit members, or put a call out in the OVGA. I could invite a guy I met at the InterOcc meetup who seemed to have some good strategic thinking....

It isn't just yesterday, this is chronic. But, okay, I'll keep with it for now. Maybe we can get more folks. That would help.

Thanks!

I mentioned to you that it was the So Cal picnic all day Sunday and
that a lot of folks would be there and we should cancel the meeting
for the week. You disagreed with me and this is what happened. I
think we need to talk to the people on the committee and see what are
the best times for people to meet. I changed the time from Sunday
morning to accomodate Rita who never came to the afternoon meeting.
Sunday's at 5:30 is not good for me as I am supposed to pick up my son
from his dad's Sunday at 5, and then we have dinner and homework. I
suggested 2 or 3 which was fine with Rita. But Dan said he and Donna
couldn't make it because of music practice. So I think we are going to
have to see who is willing to work consistently on this process and
come up with a time that works for all or at least the most people.
And it isn't chronic. There was one meeting missed because it wasn't
announced at the GA. Other than that, there has been a meeting at
your store at 5:30 pm on Sunday for the past month at least.

In any event we have a lot of work to do that isn't getting done. I get that people want to do other stuff but if we have a time set we should meet. With such a small group we can't afford to be so casual about it. My feeling is that we have so much work to do that to waste one hour is a tragedy.

Going down to InterOccupy is great community building and a lot of fun. Awesome! I get that too.

Sounds like it is the time thing. There are things you want to do on Sunday afternoons. This will keep coming up it sounds like. Okay, what other time do we have? Sunday mornings are InterOccupy calls, Monday I have Education, who are meeting regularly and getting a lot done, T and TH are GAs, no one wants to meet Fri or Sat eves so,,,,,? Even though this is a big interest for me maybe I should step down and ya'll can meet whenever you want.

I am doing a lot with the un-housed now so I have plenty to do that is making real changes in the community. I can use Sundays for that, no problem.

You all are great and full of wisdom. It's been real.

Cheers!
Deborah

Love to but it's my busiest day in the shop. Sunday was pushing it. It's cool. Thank you, though Carrick. I love working with you! We will again.

Whoever is interested in being on the strategic planning committee,
please give three choices of times that you can meet. We will tally
them up and pick one that works for people. Our tasks after
developing the mission statement is to review the survey monkey, tweak
it for dissemination on the website an Facebook page and then plan an
outreach/canvassing program for the community. From there, based on
community input, we will be able to develop goals and objectives for
Occupy Venice. Once we have these, we can then task our various
working groups to develop programs, actions and tactics to meet our
goals and objectives.

My preferred times would be Sunday afternoon before or after our work
in the Garden, so 10 or 2. My next preferred time would be before
Thursday GA at 6.

I would like to give people a week to reply and send to any other OV
members who they think should be or might want to be in this working
group.

There's always other venues as well if the mtg is too inconvenient for Deb's store hrs.

Wednesday is my one day out of the shop. (Not off, but at least out of the shop!) Hate to tie myself down to a meeting that day. I need R & R soooooo bad!  I haven't had more than 10 real days off in 3 years....so if I get invited somewhere for dinner or I get to have a few hours to go hiking, etc...I don't want to have the pressure of an appointment to get back to if I can help it. Got to fill the cup before I can pour from it again!

It's cool You guys got it! No worries. I'll really miss working with you, though! You're awesome!
