I like to look at the big picture, focusing on Occupy Earth thru
Occupy Venice, i.e., "think globally, act locally" . I think the whole
global movement needs a common purpose or it will fade away. Being a
philosopher/author, I wrote a manifesto. Here it is:
The Freedom Manifesto of Earth
As citizens of Earth, we deem it our right as individuals to be free.
In order to have freedom we claim our right to have peace, health, and
to pursue a worthwhile goal. Without peace we are not free, for we are
slaves to violence and destruction. Without health we are not free,
for we are shackled by disease and sickness. And without a meaningful
goal we are not free, for we are imprisoned by a purposeless
existence.
And so we hereby make this declaration as free peoples of Earth:
1. We claim the right to have peace.
The nations of Earth must solve their differences without the use of
force. We reject the use of violence to solve conflicts of personal,
economic, political, social and/or religious nature between all
peoples, sovereign countries and lawful organizations. The leaders and
peoples of each nation must come together and act in friendship and
cooperation rather than as competing adversaries.
2. We claim the right to health.
The peoples of Earth claim their right to the sustenance and fruits of
this planet. We all have inalienable rights to the bounties of Earth
and to be equally healthy, nourished, and invigorated by its products.
Policies based on the belief that competition and the Darwinian
“survival of the fittest” makes for a better world must cease.
Humanity must emulate the part of nature that is cooperative rather
than competitive. We must take care of our invalid, the poor and the
unfortunate.
3. We claim the right to have a worthwhile goal.
Life on Earth must have more meaning than just producing and
collecting material things. We reject materialism as a goal that
corporate entities and business concerns want us to embrace. We reject
avenues of growth that are counterproductive to peace and health, such
as military development and industries that pollute. We reject
consumerism, not only because it is not sustainable environmentally,
but because it destroys the soul. Instead of a consuming mentality, we
support the nurturing of a service oriented mindset; a giving, rather
than a taking mentality. Our goal is to create, rather than to
destroy.
Best,
