I've only had two responses to my suggestion that we turn the facebook
friend page into an OV only page, in which we are the only ones that
can post. Test run for a week.... Does anyone want to chime in? Do
you want to talk about it at the GA tonight? Basically it's a
proposition that for a week we make the facebook page closed to
outside activity and see how everyone feels about it. A step towards
deleting it, also a way to save it if possible because it dos
represent a significant amount of progress.

Thoughts?

to follow up, because i have a little time this morning, i'm looking
at the friend page and it is possible to require our approval before
we are tagged in things like pictures and posts........ i wish i could
be at the GA tonight to talk about this, i feel strange after reading
the OLA codes of conduct but you know i really worry about turning
people away from this movement and undoing a really solid mode of
communication. i'm trying really hard to not go ahead and 'lock' the
friend page without more responses.... dont want to do anything
without a temperature check.

For now, OV should be the only ones to be able to post. Because the
Friend acct can only have 5000 Friends, I believe it should be avail
only to Los Angeles area people only a few exceptions. People from
other communities from other US cities that travel throughout LA or
come to LA a couple times a year. Those not in the LA area should be
removed with a simple (template) letter why and encouraged to Like our
community page if they haven't already. Tags require approval from OV
Friend acct. Then OV can start to make lists such as Gardening,
Homeless Issues etc... and put people in the list where they would
like emergency information and or volunteer for. - Alivia

Robin,
Yes, I think only posts that are truly Occupy related should be on our FB. I don't know all the ins and outs but that is the end result that would be the best in my opinion.

Thanks and WELCOME HOME!!

(The GA is on Monday and Thursday nights now. Sorry to miss you last night!)

Cheers,
Deborah

Just saw that post on FB friend's page and wanted to support the compromise. There are strong opinions on both sides and this looks workable.

In the end, it basically comes down to 1) making available & providing content that reps OV work, issues, events and the like (aka all things OV), 2) keeping content between the two pages consistent, and 3) responding regularly to posts while insuring stuff is updated/managed/monitored.

So in keeping with priorities set out by the SoMed WG, the idea seems like a good compromise. The issue of having so many non Venice/non LA/non So Cal friends does mean that the 5,000 cap prevents other locals and potential OV members from joining & having access to the content on the page.

I agree that the fact we have a clear majority of our friends overseas is interesting. And FWIW I do find the enormous volume of Pakistani friends odd. You'd think the Dep't of Homeland Security would be more original than that...;)

Just read through a few more emails below. I'm for finding solutions for this that serve OV's needs & am assuming this compromise came about after discussions between Robin and members of the SocMed WG?

Curious - what does "lock" the page mean?
