Closing the account will be a really bad strategy in this movement powered by Facebook!

A network like that is worth way more than others can realize.

I haven't been at GA either, but I like this format of virtual connection & email proposals...

See you soon!

hi friends
i know it's been a while but i'm actually headed west and facing an
issue right now that i wanted to get a word of advice on. i'm not sure
what your current states of involvement in Occupy Venice are at the
moment in terms of going to GAs and things but i imagine we're all
doing what we can in our own ways.

that being said, a couple members of the group have been complaining
about the occupy venice friend page and i know it has been a topic at
GAs (have any of you been there for that) but i just got an email
saying that they are going to deactivate it and my opinion is that
it's a mistake.

i sent two OV members an email saying that i will take over the page
myself. i think that any way we can get information out is good,
especially if it is noticed, and the friend page gets a lot of
attention for what it is.

i'll be honest- i'm comfortable with changing the password and taking
control no matter what the retaliation is. i know i've been MIA from
venice for a while but i'm still invested. i spent the last week
involved in OWS and came away from an event last night secure in my
opinion that we have to spread information at any cost.

do you guys have opinions?

they can be short and honest and i will welcome any feedback

love

I see no reason why the account should be closed. Robin and I opened the account and watched it grow to its max. I support Robin managing the account.

100000% agree, Robin.  You did a great job (and have continued to) of building up a great following and keeping a steady stream of positive education.  Muey importante for the movement -- especially in a city where everyone is busy (not to mention, cool -- at least according to GQ!)

I haven't been at GA's lately -- nor have I been at working group meetings as I've been busy on the youth action front.  I received an email saying that, as such, they were going to remove me as an admin, despite, I'm happy to chime in and support that within the group.

I've heard multiple comments through the grapevine alluding to some "falling out" between me and the group....That is not the case at all (and I'm not sure about the genesis of that).  So you all know, I've just been busy and working in my own ways.

To clarify,

The Social Media WG has been working on this but has been overwhelmed
with the problems of the friends page. Also the Twitter account was
dead for a month and we have been trying to get that up and running
again. This is not "a few people complaining" but the group and
dedicated people making decisions on how to best manage these site and
move forward. The site is not to be erased but deactivated until we
can get the community page in line, the Twitter up and signed onto the
relevant feeds, and the website connected to all of them with the
write information displayed.

I just spoke to Robin as to talk/listen and deescalate the situation.

Last night when we came to consensus about taking down the Friends
page i included language that stated Robins opposition and that we
would still work with her to resolve the issue and allow her more time
to work on it with the group if she so desired. We included her from
all the way across the country. That's very considerate in my
opinion.

She also asked me to state that her comments earlier were a perception
she had and she does not feel people are making her feel like she's
not good enough. Her and myself have been in contact and building
relationships even when she's not "here". I have also had
conversations with Nicole and others about building relationships and
including all people. Noone is working on this harder than myself.

Robin will start a new thread on the media page to address her
concerns and see if she can make the changes she thinks would help to
keep the page up and active. Alivia, myself, Sarah, others in the WG
and currently dealing with these issues will work together as usual.

I would like to also state that this movement is open source and there
is no ownership or couping. The group meets to decide what is best for
all of us collective and individual.

There is no us and them.

Thanx, Gringo

Appreciate the transparency on this post, Robin. Feel free to forward any/all posts here re: this if you see fit. It's an open thread, but obviously this is well into the pipeline among active OV GA & SM WG peeps.

Yes, thank you for the transparency!  Truly, that shows your integrity.

We are not stopping FB! That is not true. FYI.

NONE of the people you contacted have been involved in any of this discussion but are making uninformed comments about this. NONE have been to GAs in forever. They hear your "side" but nothing else. To make an informed decision one must look at ALL sides of a question. That is how any good decisionmaking works, that is how consensus Democracy works.

Robin, I am very concerned about this line you wrote:
i'll be honest- i'm comfortable with changing the password and taking
control no matter what the retaliation is.

WOW! Really? Robin, I hope you were just upset because that way of thinking does not help anything. That splits people apart. Aren't you for unity among us? Knowing you, I would have thought you were. Why don't we all just show up to a GA and talk, shall we? Starting wars between us will NEVER help our community nor the world. In fact, you are playing into their hands with stuff like this. This is what infiltrators are hired to do, break up groups. And you guys are doing their work for them!

I am assuming you all still care about helping the community and the world, right? Hopefully more than being pissed off that this issue is not going the way you want it to. Maybe you just don't get where others are coming from..... Have you asked WHY lots of people are of a different opinion? You might get some clarity and maybe even understand why THE GROUP came to unanimous consensus! GAs are not a waste of time. We make lots of decisions there. If you'd like to be part of that process, great! Come to the GAs! We'd love to have you! (AND EVERYONE, by the way!)

It makes so much more sense than getting angry after the fact.

Why don't we focus on what we agree on and spend our energy there. We are all in this together, after all! I love you lots and lots.

Blessings,
Deborah

Hey all.
I'm in Denver and this is the first time my gmail opened without
trouble so I apologize profusely for the delay. I need to get back on
the road but I wanted to raise a suggestion, which I will act on as
soon as I get a temperature check. What if we make the facebook page
available to only Occupy Venice admins? That way we have full control
over what is posted, what we are tagged in, etc. because someone will
have to ask us to post something. It will make it easier at least in
the next week while we continue this discussion. I am willing to take
time as soon as I have it to weed out some of the unnecessary friends
and send them messages about our community page.
Let me know what you think.
I am really sorry if I got heated, and also that I haven't been in
touch for the past few days. Life on the road is amazing but I haven't
had time to catch up with a lot of things.
Hope you are well.

sounds good. Be careful, a storm may be heading your way - SoCal had a
day of hard rains.

New issue should happen this week. We should likely promote Art Show and a new 'Why I Occupy' activist. We have a crossword from Donna and a generic calendar of events. Hope to get GA to approve Good, Bad, & Ugly political update section as well. Any ideas? Suggestions?

Mike
