Quick update from OLA re: art show idea...

They've decided it would be better if it benefitted the family of the recently departed artist, Alex. Folks agreed that would serve a direct financial need and is a great gesture. Also, a group called Foursquare.org will be covering nearly all the costs, so that's sweet. Printing & Design too. Thank you, Foursquare.

So tonight this modified version will be proposed. GA starts at 7:30 at Pershing Sq. Never a dull moment there.

What? - Occupy Venice (OV) proposes to co-coordinate an Occupy Art Show with Occupy Los Angeles (OLA). The show would be held March 10th at the Vortex at Olympic & Santa Fe downtown and will include a few dozen contributing artists. The show will be a benefit for Alex Weinschenker's family.

The costs for the event are estimated to be 1) $100 for the venue rental for a single evening, 2) a refundable $250 cleaning deposit, 3) and printing for flyers/showcards (donated, in-kind). The show will include work created or inspired by the Occupy movement. The show will also include the OLA Murals if OLA comes into possession of the murals in time for this show.

How? - The Occupy Art Show will co-coordinated by members of OLA Arts committee and the OV Arts Working Group. The costs will be split between OLA & OV equally. No art work will be sold during this show. All of the proceeds made by this event's cover charge will be given to Alex Weinschenker's family.

Promotion commitments have been formalized with the Cannibal Flower show network, the HIVE, LA Citizen Magazine, and Create Fixate. A DJ will be donating services. It will be an all-ages, alcohol-free public event and cost $5 at the door. Volunteer staff for the event will be recruited from area occupy groups. No special permits are required.

Why? - The Occupy Art Show is being proposed to feature large and small scale art by artists from around the LA area who make work in the spirit of the Occupy Movement. As Alex Weinschenker was an OLA artist who recently passed away, we would like to support our comrade's family, who is, by extension, our family.

Cool. Thx, Erika. OV Arts will be meeting tonight at 8:30 @ AH, but there's not much in place re: the show. But we do have shirt designs, your flash mobbishness, etc.

The OLA side has yet to meet re: the art show so not much to report besides what we said last eve. The OLA Arts mtg will be Fri at 7pm at Pitfire Pizza on Main downtown.
