Corporations rely on our participation in the great consumerist traditions of shop-a-holism.
We’ve been trained to line fat cat corporate pockets with even more of our hard-earned cash
by thinking that our holidays are incomplete without “that perfect gift.”

This year, let’s begin occupying solutions that change our approach to the holidays.

Let’s choose to keep our money in our communities and allow the bloodsucking corporations
to hear us loud and clear through the silence of their cash registers.

Whether you’ve been participating in an encampment since September, or whether you’ve wanted
a way to add your voice but haven’t been able to occupy, here’s how you can stick it to ‘em:

BUY LOCAL

Look around your neighborhood. Buy from small/independent/worker-owned businesses you’d
like to help sustain.

Seek out farmer’s markets and local craft fairs to purchase goods from local suppliers. These will
be goods that are not assembled or produced by exploited labor, and your money goes back into a
local community instead of into the pockets of those who work the hardest to exploit us all.

USE YOUR TALENTS AND INGENUITY

Make something yourself!
The possibilities are endless. Bake, cook, knit, build, provide a service, or throw a party for
everyone you’d like to gift! We are in the midst of a moment that encourages creativity and
thinking beyond the box. This momentum is yours to harness. Grab the horns and do it!

BOYCOTT BLACK FRIDAY

Big box and department stores depend on our collective hoarding mentality to fatten their bottom
line and force employees to work at ridiculous hours. Show ‘em right from the start of the season
that we will not play their game.

This holiday season, release yourself from corporate-sponsored,
excessive consumerist culture. Make this season work for US.
