interesting "business model" for academia

An article in the Globe yesterday was about academics training more
academics than there is a market for and what to do with all of the
"unused brainpower", leaving people who aren't "selected" for
professorships in an awkward position. The meat of it is about the
Ronin Institute: http://ronininstitute.org/ Which networks experts and
finds research projects for them, effectively saving careers of people
trained for academia, but who haven't found "a place". It's a very
interesting sort of "self-organizing" use of talent.
