Freedom of the Press, as it is included with the 1st Amendment has the purpose of allowing for the voice of the people to be heard and acknowledged. This principle is at the core behind the creation of Activate Radio and the reason independent media is particularly important in these times.
Independent media outlets as well as social media platforms allowed Occupy to spread in a matter of weeks from a feeling of inequity and unfairness to a collective movement encamped in approximately 600 cities. Today we can see an echoing of the legacy of the Occupy message in political campaigns, in conversation, even commercial advertising. Our collective voice does makes a difference.
