Letter from Director
Friends,
Yes, fall is here, with it brings cooler weather, school, sports and holidays. This is the time of year when everyone has a ton of stuff added to their schedules. I'd just like to remind you all how important it is to take a few minutes here and there for yourselves. It doesn't take long and makes a world of difference, especially when others are depending on you.
One of the things that Activate Media has tried to promote, is the idea that there need to be events for Activists and Non-Profit folks to relax and let their hair down so to speak, in a more casual environment. Too many times I've noticed that the only time in the 'making a better future possible' arena people only see each other under less than positive circumstances.
Over the past month or so we had our Summer Fundraising Campaign, unfortunately, it did not go very well. We appreciate the support that we have gotten but have had to make some adjustments in the immediate path forward. The Dia de los Muertos event that was in the works will have to be put on the shelf for another year as it takes funding and work from volunteers to pull off such an event. We had hoped that this event would allow us the ability to leapfrog into production of the Activist Ball early in 2017.
At the moment, we may be able to plan an election night party, If there is support from the community, this is possible, but again will take some funding and collaboration of the work that it takes to do such a thing. Our Summer Fundraising Campaign will have to continue through the fall in order to fund what we are currently able to do. We can do this, and somehow will accomplish this, but it really is going to take something from all of us to make possible. If you can contribute to our funding please generously do so! We also need volunteers that are willing to roll up their sleeves and dig in.
On a brighter front, we are in the process of adding 3+ new shows to our radio schedule. I can't publicly reveal much about them at the moment, except to say that you will have some new reasons to tune-in and listen. Additionally, we are working on launching a youth/student program that will allow students and youth to be able to work as a team to produce and broadcast their perspectives on Activate Radio.
Finally, we have been able to combine our different mailing lists, and have gotten them into MailChimp which we will be using now to distribute this newsletter. This was a time-consuming process that had many starts and stops due to our very small staff.
At Activate Media we have many tools that can help organizations and npo's amplify their voices and the voices of the marginalized and oppressed.
