Happy early DC Emancipation Day to everyone! On Thursday, April 16, we will be meeting with a number of Senate and House offices to continue to build our list of supporters in Congress.
Since 2014's record-smashing efforts (record numbers of cosponsors in both the House and the Senate for Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton's New Columbia Admission Act, along with a landmark hearing in the Senate affirming the constitutionality of our bill for statehood for the people of DC), we have gotten off to a strong start in 2015. Today our bill, introduced in January as HR 317, has 110 cosponsors, nearly equal to our number in the previous Congress already. Sen. Tom Carper (DE), who introduced the Senate's companion bill to Rep. Norton's bill in the previous Congress, will be reintroducing his bill (with a large number of cointroducers) the same week we go up to the Hill.
If you can join our Senate team, please contact Josh Burch at unitedfor...@gmail.com to let him know you'll be coming and to get more information. (Josh is also asking those with family and/or friends in Connecticut, Minnesota, Michigan, New Mexico, Rhode Island or Oregon especially to email him to prepare for this month's lobby day.)
If you can join our House team, please contact Elinor Hart at hart...@juno.com to let her know you'll be coming and to get more information.
Thanks,
Jesse Lovell jforj...@gmail.com
