Here are the final plans for Tuesday, April 16

Following a brief orientation, the team will split up into smaller teams for meetings starting at 1 pm. There will be meetings throughout the afternoon. Those who cannot meet at noon but who would like to participate later in the day should contact Elinor Hart at hart...@yahoo.com. You can reach Elinor Hart on April 16 at 202-553-0927 (cell).

Senate Team:
This team will gather at 12 noon in the lobby of the Senate Hart Office Building (look for the sculpture in the center of the lobby). You can enter the Senate Hart Building from the Senate Dirksen Building (First/C Streets, NE; Union Station metro). The organizer, Josh Burch, asks that volunteers arrive by 12 pm. Lobbying will begin soon after and continue throughout the afternoon. Those who cannot meet at noon but who would like to participate later in the day should contact Josh Burch at joshb...@yahoo.com. Andrea and All -- A very worthy cause.  And there's another one waiting:  Amendment 8 to the DC Home Rule Charter, which would change the current requirement that Congress enact the entire DC budget, and substitute a requirement that the Mayor and DC Council enact the budget.  This would not, of course, get the DC-enacted budget out from under the potential congressional veto threat that affects ALL DC legislation, but it would mean that -- assuming no congressional action within 30 days -- the DC tax dollars in our budget would be controlled by us, not the Hill.  This holds the promise of a fiscal year that fits the academic year of DCPS, and the end of DC government shutdown when a federal budget doesn't get enacted in time to keep the federal lights turned on.  Again, it governs our locally-generated tax dollars, not federal payments to DC.  A good turnout will be required to demonstrate our desire for real home rule, despite the fact that an At-Large Councilperson election in April normally brings out only the dedicated partisans and wonks among us.  So tell your friends and neighbors to get out the vote!!  There are yard signs, etc., available from DC Vote (I have a few, if you're in the Barnaby Woods area).

Best regards,
Bill Hoffman
