I am reposting this reminder by the D.C. Statehood Coalition about participating in the March on Washington 50th Anniversary and at the same time showing support for full American citizenship for residents of the District—i.e., Statehood.   Please join in!

P.S.  Here’s a map showing the location of the DC WWI Memorial:

The 50th Anniversary of the historic 1963 March on Washington is less than a week away now, and the Statehood community will be out in force for this once in a lifetime opportunity to show the rest of America that we are serious about including DC in today's civil rights movement and about passing the New Columbia Admission Act (http://newcolumbiavision.org/current_statehood_legislation0.aspx)

DC residents will be gathering at
8:30 AM on Saturday, August 24 at the DC War Memorial located on the north side of Independence Avenue, across from the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial (west of 17th Street near West Potomac Park and the Tidal Basin) for the Rally for DC (
http://marchondc50.dc.gov/event/rally-dc-and-march-lincoln-memorial). We will hear from DC leaders and performers, then make our way to the Lincoln Memorial at 9:30 to join the national 50th Anniversary March on Washington Realize the Dream Rally (http://officialmlkdream50.com/august-24/) starting at 10 am. We will have lots of signs and brochures to give to visitors to DC on Saturday.

Please RSVP for Saturday on our Eventbrite page HERE (
https://www.eventbrite.com/event/7741345573)

Also, for those who can be there, there will be a sign-making party on
Thursday, August 22 at Freedom Plaza from 12 noon until 4 pm. This is a good opportunity to make sure we have plenty of signs for Saturday that get our message across: "DC Wants Statehood."

For more information, you can call 202-442-8150 (Mayor's Office of Community Relations).

See you Saturday (if not before)!

Secretary, DC Statehood Coalition
