6:00 PM - NON-VIOLENT DIRECT ACTION & THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT
Campbell Public Library, Meeting Room, 77 Harrison Avenue, Campbell
Janet Braun-Reinitz shares her story of being a Freedom Rider during
the Civil Rights Movement. As an activist from the Congress of Racial
Equality (CORE), she and the other Freedom Riders traveled in the
southern states and used white only facilities – black and white
riders alike. The Riders faced strong resistance from angry mobs and
the Ku Klux Klan as they stood up against racial segregation. Many
were beaten and jailed, but they remained steadfast in their
commitment to non-violence and brought national attention to the issue
of civil rights. (more details at https://www.google.com/calendar/render?tab=mc&pli=1)
