The date for the We the People Act hearing is CHANGED to Nov 9!

We need a BIG turnout for this!

Hi Kathleen,

Let's fix our broken democracy by getting money out of politics and affirming that only humans, not corporations, have constitutional rights. www.WeThePeopleMass.org

On Thursday, November 9 the Joint Committee for Veterans and Federal Affairs will hold a hearing for the We the People Act, H.1926.

Thur. Nov. 9, 2:00 - 5:00 PM - State House Hearing Room B2 (Directions below)

As one of only 5 bills, H.1926 will likely be the only bill with active supporters present. Lead sponsor Rep. Carmine Gentile has been working diligently to gain additional support for the bill among the leaders in the House. Let us strengthen his position by showing up. Bring a friend.

Let's fill the room with supporters!

If you plan to join us, contact Leo Immonen at limm...@verzon.net.

Click here to call or email your State Representative and State Senator to encourage them both to write to the Chairs of the Joint Committee on Veterans and Federal Affairs in support of the We the People Act (H.1926).

For all attendees: Please come with something written. Contact Leo for talking points if you want. Short statements matter. Every statement counts. Hand it in to Clerk of the Committee. Plan to visit YOUR State Rep and Senators offices, give them a copy, and urge them to write to the Committee Chairs to recommend the bill favorably to the House.

We urge you to testify. Or come in support. Your presence empowers us to return our government to the people.

For all speakers, please follow these instructions:

  • Locate the sign in sheet. Look for We the People Mass buttons and we will help you.
  • Write your name and the bill number H.1926 on the sign in sheet.
  • Address your testimony to the Chairs of Joint Committee on Veterans and Federal Affairs: Senate Chair Mike Rush and House Chair John Lawn.
  • Explain why you support the bill. Make this personal.
  • Keep your comments under 3 minutes. Your written copy may be longer than your verbal testimony.
  • If possible, speak without reading; otherwise, look up frequently to engage the committee.
  • Avoid repeating at length what an earlier speaker has said. Simply agree with the speaker who said blah, blah.
  • If you are called on to speak late in the hearing and have no new points, simply identify yourself and state that you strongly urge the committee to support bill H.1926.
  • Have 3 printed copies: one that you hand in to the Clerk of the Committee and one for each of your legislators. You can take your written testimony to their offices when you know you will not be testifying. We can give you directions to their offices. Or you can find their office numbers and email addresses at the state legislators’ website.

Directions to the Hearing:

  • Go to the Bowdoin Street entrance of the State House.*
  • Hearing Rooms B2 is across the corridor from the entrance.
  • Since we want to meet you, please look for us wearing the We the People button and introduce yourself. Get a button and wear it proudly.

* If you are new to going to the Statehouse, we can help you with parking ideas, and more directions. Write to Leo at limm...@verizon.net

See you then!
