As an American who believes in our democratic traditions, I am dismayed to learn that The Economist, a well-respected British weekly, downgraded the United States from a "full democracy" to a "flawed democracy." Government of, by and for the people has morphed into government of, by and for powerful and wealthy special interests, as many of us know. 

Jeff Clements (author of Corporations Are Not People: Reclaiming Democracy from Big Money and Global Corporations, and recent founder of American Promise, a nationwide group working to achieve an amendment addressing Citizens United and corporate dominance of our government) is speaking at Salem State University this Thursday, April 6 at 7pm at the Petrowski Room (room 210) in Marsh Hall, 1 Loring Ave, Salem.  

It's a wonderful opportunity to learn about the need for an amendment and strategies for getting there and Jeff is a great speaker.  This bipartisan event is co-sponsored by the Marblehead League of Women Voters and We the People Mass/North Shore.  Details are in the attached document.

Good to arrive early both for seating and also to find space in the garage and get to Marsh Hall.
