Hey errbody,
I posted this essay attachment in earlier PACE thread but wasn't sure if that triggered alert to members or whatever, but if so apologies for the redundancy! this essays seeks to extract the political and aesthetic value of applying the new discursive "human microphone" practices of OWS to a semi-improvisational guerrilla reading "occupying" Portland's financial district. thru recourse to linguist JL Austin's notion of performative utterances, the essay seeks to establish that the listener-speaker solidarity engendered by the human microphone practice can be understood as speech acts capable of producing social space. fun pictures included! thoughts and comments welcome.
