Greetings,

2011, for me, has been a whirlwind tour of great times and really bad
times (sometimes mixed into the same week or even day). I am trying
to keep myself on an even keel and deal with the many challenges that
come with supporting a revolutionary movement. A movement that I have
waited for all my life, a movement that could serve to redefine the
interactions, society and culture of not only America, but the entire
world, for generations. One of the women at a GA a few weeks ago said
"I am here to celebrate the end of Apathy in America". I join her in
that celebration, and long to work for this movement as much as
possible, and that is my sincere intention, to do everything that I
can. To be quite frank Occupy Poughkeepsie could use a full time
organizer, I am glad to help in that and other areas.

As many of you know, due to circumstances beyond my control
(circumstances and values that I have protested against in the Occupy
movement) I am currently "homeless". I was informed a little over an
hour ago that the cost of heating the barn at High Valley is too high
for the hosts there. Those of you paying particularly close attention
will know that I stayed at Jeff Green's house last night. This is
also not a sustainable situation due to my allergy to cigarette smoke
and the fact that Jeff needs to host someone else (who is also a
smoker) for the foreseeable future.

I was there that night when the Police came and destroyed what was
serving as not only a home, but a center for our movement. Many of
you helped us with food, water and even chocolate (!) The challenge
now is to refocus our energies and make sure that people are not left
behind. This is of particular interest to me because I feel like the
one who is getting left behind. I am unable to continue sleeping
outside and am asking for some stability that will allow me to help us
all reach the next phase of Occupy.

Quite simply stated, I need
1) A warm place to stay, a spare room (ideal) or even a couch is
fine.
2) Shower and some sort of cooking facilities
3) Internet connection

About me: I am 42, male, non-violent, spiritually oriented, non-
dogmatic, liberal minded. I have been educated in the best
universities of America and Europe, in Sociology and Political
Science.
I am a non-smoker, non drug user, social drinker, non Coffee user
(read: I will not drink your brew). I am extremely quiet and you will
not know that I am even there unless you engage me in discussions of
Occupation, Politics or Sociology :) If anyone has further questions
please email me at alexan...@ymail.com

It is my hope that this honest plea will find a warm heart and a warm
room.

Yours in the Occupation / 2nd American Revolution,
Alexander Forest Key

Wishing you all the best, Alexander. Yes, heating is our achille's heel, which is why we could only offer temporary respite to Occupy. Thank you for your understanding. Hope you can find a place that is closer to heart of the action, which seems now to be New Paltz. Onwards!

My best to all the rest of you, too.

Hello Alexander!
I am sorry things are not going as you would hope them to.  Perhaps you may find someone who is willing to accommodate your needs and I'm sure that would be very nice for you.  I do wish you luck, but think that not many would be willing to meet your request.  As I said in my last note to the group: "Sorry to say we are not in a position to take anyone into our home.  Also, we rarely go to Poughkeepsie and are even further away than High Valley.  Perhaps there is something to help Alexander at this site:  Another young man that was at Hulme Park said he had housing at the Hudson River facilities because he was homeless, and explained that was why he could not stay overnight at Hulme, as he'd risk losing that."
To elaborate on that, when Tom and I volunteered there years ago they had established a pretty nice set-up.  From what I read, they have expanded on it, and it would be worth looking in to.  People were carefully screened, had a place to shower, got dinner and breakfast, and we even did their laundry during the night.
However, you sound very committed to the movement, so perhaps you may want to join those at New Paltz, where I've heard that an accepted (by the mayor) camp has been set up.  Whatever you choose, I hope things work out for you.  One point I'd like to make that I feel is important: you list the things you would like someone to provide for you, yet there is not a single offer of anything in exchange, except quiet, which already exists without you.
Regards,  Kathy
