Hi, all--
At the Outreach Working Group meeting today, we decided that we needed to make sure that Occupy Poughkeepsie members and sympathizers attend the next Poughkeepsie Common Council meeting.
Common Council Meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers, Third Floor, Municipal Building, 62 Civic Center Plaza, Poughkeepsie, New York, on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month, except holidays and the months of July and August. The next Common Council meeting is this coming Monday, 17 December. It is the first Common Council meeting since Occupy Poughkeepsie was evicted from Hulme Park on December 7th at 3 am.
At each meeting, the Common Council sets aside up to 45 minutes for public participation (agenda of Monday’s meeting is attached). Those wishing to speak sign in at the beginning of the meeting. Each speaker is allotted 3 minutes to say what is on their mind or read a statement. It would be great if we could fill those slots with people who are residents of the City of Poughkeepsie. If you are a resident and can commit to making a statement, it would be great if you could let me know (jeff...@gmail.com). It might also be possible for non-residents of the city to speak, but our message would be more effective if it came from city residents. If you cannot make it to the meeting or do not feel comfortable speaking, please encourage other residents you know to turn out and speak in your place.
