Dear Health Care Activists and Supporters,
Health Care for All-Oregon is ramping up a strong grassroots movement in Oregon.  We have the Capitol steps reserved in Salem on Monday, February 4, 2013 to demonstrate support for health care as a human right.  We want thousands of people at that rally, and in order for that to happen we need to reach thousands of people over the next six months in towns across the state through healthcare surveys, house parties, public forums, and photo petitions.
At Reed College July 27-29 there is an excellent opportunity for all of us to learn how to do these things and others to build a movement.  Please find space on your calendar to attend this event and join other HCAO activists for an inspiring and educational weekend. We will form an HCAO caucus.
To qualify for scholarships, you must send in your application by this Friday, June 15.  Please contact David Young from Portland Jobs with Justice if you need housing.  See below for further details.

AMP: A timely opportunity for grassroots skills training:
Activists Mobilizing for Power (AMP) is a unique three-day training and networking event for community-based leaders, staff, and volunteers of progressive grassroots organizations, organized by the Western States Center. It takes place every summer at Reed College in Portland, this year July 27-29. It represents an opportunity for HCAO activists to develop their organizing skills, to meet other HCAO activists from around the state, and to network with other progressive activists.
The full list of workshops is listed here, but below is a selection of topics which may be most important for HCAO activists to participate in at this stage of our development:
  • Ballot Measure Organizing
  • Beyond Diversity: Dismantling Racism
  • Build a Phenomenal Board
  • Civic Engagement 101
  • Grants, Foundations and Money…Oh My!
  • Grassroots Fundraising: Show Me the Money!
  • Immigrant Rights, Civil Rights
  • In It to Win It: How to Manage a Successful Campaign
  • Internet Strategies for on the Ground Organizing
  • Interrupting Oppressive Language [2]*
  • Make Your Strategic Plan Come Alive!
  • Organizing 101: Gear Up for Justice
  • Organizing Ourselves: Facilitation and Effective Meetings
  • Radical Art & Poster Making
  • Ramp Up Your Actions!
  • Stronger Together: Building Effective Coalitions [2] *
  • Winning Economic Justice through Policy Change
Fees: $75 per day for full-day workshops (includes the morning plenary, one day-long workshop, lunch, and special programs and activities) and $30 for 2-hour workshops on Sunday. (However, the in-depth, full-day workshops will be significantly more useful and are worth the cost.) Some work trade is available, but this involves an early June 15 deadline for application. The standard registration deadline is June 22.

* Workshops marked with “[2]” indicate two-hour workshops, as opposed to the standard 10 am – 5 pm schedule
