TONIGHT, PALO ALTO - James (Lee) Han, a local activist and Redwood City native who pulled papers for the city council race in Redwood City last week, will be emceeing the Stop the Ban Coalition's rally this evening at Palo Alto City Hall (250 Hamilton Ave), from 6 PM to 8 PM.

The Stop the Ban Coalition will be rallying to show the Palo Alto community's opposition against their city government's proposed vehicular dwelling ban. The ban targets the city's homeless population, many of whom work in Palo Alto but are paid far too little to afford to live in Palo Alto and end up living in their cars to get by.

Asked about why he was getting involved in another city's issue, Han responded, "For better or for worse, issues that affect one city on the Peninsula affect others. Gentrification pressures in one Peninsula community spills over into the next, and a lack of affordable housing in one city creates housing pressures elsewhere. I have seen this firsthand both as a housing activist and as a person who has in the past had trouble finding an affordable place to live in the area.

"Redwood City has for a long time been known as one of the more affordable and income-inclusive places to live in the area. But unless every city on the Peninsula does their part to address their local housing issues, immense pressure will drive such inclusiveness out of the few remaining places on the Peninsula where it exists, including my own city."
