Some who spend lots of time at camp have asked to discuss this matter
tonight. We will NOT be using the consensus procedure. They asked for
5-6pm. If any wants to change this time frame, let me know. I will
tell the group when I arrive. If anyone wants to have their say on
here, I would be happy to print it out & read it for all who attend.

Um no. We started this as people who want to stand up to corporations
corrupting our govt. That is not the main reason homeless people would
want to go to a camp... they may want to when they find out, but
they're not who started Occupy, friend. Don't know what the other
occupys did about that... hmm

Do we have a socio-economic requirement to join the camp?

As a guy who has been homeless, there's no reason to be if you're
older than 18. Dial HOT team, they'll pay your first month's rent,
food stamps, and medical care free for the first year. Those who are
homeless and older than 18 are in that state for a reason. Not to say
that they aren't suffering, but only to say that if they are willing
to stay sober, (or at least mask it,) there are other options.

I don't understand your answer. How does not having a home qualify or dis-qualify a person from the Occupy movement?

It doesn't. Being a bum does. There's a difference.

It doesn't matter what kind of home people do or don't have... the
only requirement is to care about our issues and try to help us in
some way- corporatism destroying everything, health care, student
loans, and all that screwing us all over. I think it's obvious.

No-one is talking about kicking out folks who have been wronged and
are concerned, or requiring a credit check to enter the camp. We're
talking about people in active addiction and mental issues minus
medication, and I want to help those people get treatment, but they
don't have much to offer the movement.

Unless you're there, dealing with the problems that are best dealt
with by trained paramedics, please, don't twist this into economic
discrimination.

As to homeless people occupying "your" camp, many homeless people 45% are veterans. There are many more homeless people who lost their jobs, could not pay their rent, and have no family to help them. I am not homeless, but I am disabled due to mental illness. I had a nervous breakdown by being abused by my ex for 10 1/2 yrs. Why did I stay so long? I stayed so my son would have 2 parents in the home! People with addictions/mental illness are the mose disenfranchised people in our society, other than African Americans, and yes I'm white. They are also a part of the 99%. A few years back I could not afford food, so I ate where the homeless people ate. When one of them found a job and told others that the guy needed more men, almost all the men gathered around his cell phone to get work!!! Only the ones with felonies were given a job. Yes, people that are homeless for a long time do tend to become addicted/alcoholics. What would you do if you were dirty, hungry, and couldnt find a job? Isn't that what occupy is about? Jobs? Not just for a bunch of middle class kids who just finished college. For all of us.Isn't it about health care? What about the people who work and get low pay and no health care? What about low income people who did go to the college their family could afford, and have to choose between, rent, food, medicine, or car payment? Don't judge until you've walked a mile in their shoes. I've seen and talked to them. Peace. And btw I'm with you. Sharon

oops without felonies        And what do you think 1 month rent is going to do if you still can't find a job that pays the rent, utilities, and a way to get to work?

This isn't about being homeless. It's about behavior on the occupation
site.
