I am the founding and managing editor of the
nomadic
sojourns creative collective, a nonprofit publishing
and events collective with bases in Brooklyn, NY, and
Oakland, CA (as of December 2013). For the past five
months, we have been busy organically assembling a new
space in Fruitvale, Oakland, and we are now in a position
to start opening our doors to events that combine live
musical performances with live readings in an intimate,
unique setting.
As soon
as we began pondering who we wanted to reach out to
regarding participation in our first event, we thought of
AK Press. As such, we wanted to know if you have two poets
(either locally based or that will be coming through the
Bay Area) that would be interested in participating in a
live reading of their work near the end of June (a
tentative date/time has been set for Friday, June 20, from
8:00–10:00 p.m.)?
The
audience will be carefully curated and limited to 15
people, excluding the performers/poets, and featured on
our website. Wine and food will be provided. It's an
offbeat spot and we want to offer offbeat events with
folks that live to and through their own beats, rhythms,
and rhymes.
Donations
will be collected at the event and performers/poets paid
for their performances and readings. All performers and
poets are of course welcome to sell copies of their
albums/books at the event as well.
I look
forward to hearing your thoughts when you have a moment,
and please know that AK Press has many fans here at the
nomadic sojourns creative collective.
Sincerely,
J. K. Fowler
