Here are the minutes from last night's meeting. I'm still editing and won't be able to make it to GA tonight after all. Can someone who is going to be there make the announcement about the meeting and also announce the "Camp Media Training" points below? We should be sure to announce this a few days in a row, for people who may have missed a GA or are just joining us. Also, just make it a point to let people know as you meet them that we have some suggestions on how to deal with the media.

Media Meeting Notes - Sat. 10/22
Media Team Table Training
Anyone who wants to work the media table must:
- Attend at least one media meeting
- Shadow someone who's already already worked the table before
- Ask each reporter or anyone w/ professional equipment: who they are, what story they are doing, where they work, and when the story will run
- Stay with the equipment at all times
- Contribute to the FAQ notebook (I will bring a notebook down tomorrow, Monday)
Camp Media Training
Suggestions on talking to media:
- Use "I" statements instead of "we" statements; make sure the reporter knows you speak only for yourself
- Try to get someone to film you being interviewed
- Affirm that this is a leaderless, decentralized movement
- Remember that the media may take things out of context; choose your words wisely
- If you threaten the media, you threaten the movement; if you absolutely hate the corporate media, just ignore them
Make sure the media are following our guidelines:
- You do not have to be filmed, photographed, recorded, or interviewed if you choose not to be; you can refuse to give your name
- They should not record anyone sleeping or receiving media treatment
-
They should not enter the kitchen, kidzone, or medic space
- If you have a concern about a reporter, come let us know at the media tent
Other agenda items
- Shon put together a supply request list
- Someone (I didn't catch her name) will set up a Reddit for us
- Desi is going to send out an e-mail about Eatherpad, where we can share live documents to make the discussion process easier
- We will also put a list of media contacts on Eatherpad, and use that to keep track of media coverage, who's been friendly and who hasn't
- We want to guide the media by sending them positive story ideas. If you have an idea for a press release, go ahead and write it up and send it to the list (or put it on Eatherpad, when that's set up).
