Ok, I wasn't at GA last night, but this is the last I knew:

Wednesday night the media team was working on a press release into the wee hours of the morning. This press release corrected the misinformation about an all-out media ban.  My understanding was that it would be brought to GA as a proposal before it was made public.  Matt was texting me throughout the GA last night and said it passed, and that you were advocating for it.  Am I misunderstanding something here?

At the media meeting, we also discussed how to deal with the press, having liaisons and press passes, etc. We need to merge with the press team and then split up into smaller groups. There was a suggestion that these groups be tech/web, creative media (video, photo, audio, writing), and public relations.  Looks like the two groups are doing some of the same work, so I think we definitely need to join forces in order to use our time and resources more efficiently.  Perhaps we should also merge the two email lists too. Or designate them for different purposes. Like "media" could be for the media we create, "press" could be for PR/dealing w/ outside media, and "web" could be for web/tech.

I primarily focused on rounding up positive or at least neutral news stories.

When is the press release going out? Do we still need to compile a contact info list? I can work on that today, though I'd rather work on the Occupodcast.

P.S. Krystof, Matt M. told me that you were integral in helping to reach consensus on the press release, and for that I thank you. I couldn't be there last night so I'm glad it went through.

I don't have it either, and as part of our 'press' team, was entirely unaware of the 'media' commitee proposal until it came up at last night's GA.

As far as org, the email thread had arrived at the suggestion to merge media and press and have three prongs:

1- internal media - media we make.  Podcast, website.

2- external media - PR.  Dealing with press from outside our camp.  From what I can tell, some of the people dealing with press requests (Maya, Tara, Kat, Josh, me, others) weren't privy to the proposal, and still haven't seen the text of it.  Hopefully we can improve our lines of communication.

3- media coordination.  Getting access to equipment and connectivity for those who need it in the media tent and elsewhere.

I just want to make sure we improve our communication with the outside world, as there's a good deal of nastiness being said/ spread about Occupy Oakland in the past few days.  We can do better.  We're all in this together.

As part of the "media" team, I didn't even know there was a "press" team. I've never seen anyone speak at the GAs that I've made it to (only 4 so far).

The first episode of the podcast could be done and up by tomorrow morning if I could edit at camp tonight. Does anybody out there have laptop with ProTools on it? Or even just a Mac laptop? I have ProTools and an iLock, so I could load it onto your laptop for all to use.

Hi Liz,

Yes, there's a press team that's been sending out press releases.  We want to work with you - and merge with you to simplify all of this.

I work nights, so I'm watching GAs on Livestream.  But I'm around a lot during the day, usually with my baby son. 

We're all excited to hear the first Occupodcast.  I have a ProTools-equipped laptop, but I'm working on it this afternoon.  What time would you want to get started?  And do you have a power supply that you could use with it?  My power supply is all messed up, and the battery doesn't hold a huge amount of charge.

Haha.  The merger department of the press team, are any of you on-site tonight?  The earliest I could get over there would be about 2 a.m.

From the discussion we've been having, 'press' is happy to be usurped into 'media' - just consider us part of the 'external media' prong.  You just acquired us for $0.00.  We just want to make sure we're up to speed, and applying our energies in the right directions.

Can anybody from 'press' meet tonight right after GA?

Unfortunately, I don't have a power supply. I'll be there around 6pm today. The only part I need to do still is to get lots of different people to read different parts of the first statement posted on the website ("our only demand is an invitation..."). If I can get that part done tonight (shouldn't be too difficult), and we can get it online then it can be up before the rally and march tomorrow! If not, it can go up on Sunday or Monday, that's fine too. It's pretty brief (about 15 minutes) since it's the first podcast, but I think it's fun and welcoming and gives a different image of us than has been circulating around on the mainstream media. I tried to be a little bit funny too, though it might just come off as cheesy. Oh well, I can live with that.

I don't actually know how to get podcasts online, so if anyone has those skills, I'd love your help.  I found some instructions here: http://www.ehow.com/how_2003178_distribute-my-podcast.html, but a lot of it is gibberish to me.

I'll be around all day tomorrow and most of Sunday.
