Hi friends,

On the anniversary of the passing of Jack Layton, a neighbor and leader in Canada, I wanted to share this link with you - the tribute in chalk that happened all across Canada last year and again yesterday.  At the time of his rather sudden passing Jack was leader of the federal NDP that held the balance of power in Canada's parliament.  But he began in city politics and so city halls were the cite of the chalk memorials across the country.  As we were going through out Artwalk chalking issues here in LA, this national chalk tribute kept coming back to me, and on the anniversary of Jack's death it happened again:

You can click on this (The Globe and Mail is Canada's national newspaper, generally conservative) and watch the video:  http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/news-video/video-remembering-jack-layton-at-toronto-city-hall/article4493900/?from=4492959

It's important for us to remember and hold up that there are democratic socialists to the north, south, around the world, who are inspired by our sacred scriptures to do justice, love kindness, walk humbly with our God.  Jack Layton was one such leader.

Sincerely,
Roberta Morris
